Will any of my fellow Disers be in the MK on Jan 30th? I'll be there with DH, the inlaws and my lime green mickey. :thumbsup2

Have any of you ever been to this site? It's called Voice of the Martyrs. It gives accounts of people being persecuted and/or tortured for their Christian faith. You can write to some of them; I wrote an encouraging letter to a 20 year old lady imprisoned in Pakistan. :sad1: It also lets you sign up for a monthly newsletter.

DH and I get their newsletters all the time. I bought one of the prayer bands for China they had just prior to the olympics. You should read about "Preacher Bike", for whom the bands were supporting. I get comments all the time from people who notice it.

As for the ammo thing- yes, once Obama was elected ammo got more difficult to come by. DH's aunt works for Cabela's and they've had an over 400% increase in firearms sales since election day. Here in the DFW area there's a gun show at least once a month in Ft Worth, if not more often, and people are bringing in backpacks to carry as much ammo as they can. We've been stocking up as well, mainly for our handguns. Ammo for hunting rifles and shotguns will likely be more easy to come by, plus we dont fire them nearly as often as we shoot the handguns. I'm really surprised more people didn't catch on to this attempt to appease the gun-control fanatics AND the gun owners at the same time. Emphasize that people can keep their guns, downplay the fact that he'd render them useless.

Soarin...i'm keeping your blog on my favorites here at work. We have the same taste in music and movies. I love Queen, the Beatles, Josh Groban...I was raised on music from the 60s but since i'm a singer I listen to anything and everything. My ipod is an older 30G with just under 9k songs on it, and it only holds about half of my cd collection. There isn't a genre that I don't have SOMETHING for.

This whole Lincoln copycat thing is weird to me. Why would they let Obama use Lincoln's bible? Seriously wouldn't it be risking having it destroyed being outside in the elements with potential rain/wind, etc.? I don't think it should be removed from the Smithsonian, but that's just me. History has been very kind to Lincoln and conveniently omitted many things about his presidency that might portray him as anything less than perfect. The civil war had really nothing to do with slavery, and anyone who would take the time to read about it, or even visit somewhere like Vicksburg, MS would see that. If it were all about slaves, why on earth would the south have had a rather large black confederate membership, many of whom were very highly praised for their efforts? We saw some of the neatest stuff at the Vicksburg courthouse about them. You won't read about them in the history books though.

Blestmom-books---Francine Rivers? Love her. Redeeming Love is one of her best. Some other authors you might like are Judith Pella, Judith Miller, Tracie Peterson, Wanda Brunstetter.

Seems our conservative group is growing by leaps and bounds here...and keeps getting younger. That gives me hope :goodvibes

Soarin' would be unhappy...we were on page 2 again!

It is great to see the younger generation flocking to conservatism! We're noticing the same thing at Church, the younger people are really more traditional than some of us "old fogies" that were raised in the 70's. Sort of contradicts the notion that the younger generation is going to rid the world of traditional values....:rolleyes1

So I'm gonna go backwards here, hope no one minds :) Good morning all! :surfweb:

Will any of my fellow Disers be in the MK on Jan 30th? I'll be there with DH, the inlaws and my lime green mickey. :thumbsup2

I get in a little after that. Fly in on Feb 5. From Rochester ;)

Welcome! It's great to have another young person (I'm old - I just turned 30 two weeks ago :teeth:) on here that understands politics! I didn't give a care about the subject until this year. :sad2:

By any chance do you know how to do a photobook on Shutterfly?

I know how to do a share site on Shutterfly if that helps at all :confused3

Thanks for the info. I've written both my state rep and senator voicing my opposition to this bill.

:thumbsup2 My bf was ranting about it last night. He actually got a little excited when I went to post it here. I think he's coming over to the dark side :rotfl:

Yes they can.

And, yes...Men.

My last boyfriend broke up with me over Myspace (one reason why I don't use it).

Last boyfriend (before my wonderful one now, there is hope :lovestruc ) broke up with me out of the blue. Seriously, 2 days before we were coming back from spending the weekend with his friends and he was saying how he couldn't wait to take me back to his home town. Then 2 days later he broke up with me. Saying we were too "different." So I asked what that meant and he said I was too opinionated :lmao: He was slightly left of center... Not like that changed overnight though. I mean, I think our 2nd or 3rd date he picked me up and I had an Ann Coulter book lying on my coffee table. :sad2:

Hey everyone! I am THRILLED to have found the conservative/Republican thread! It seems like we are in the minority these days, but the truth is we're usually just quiet so we're not slammed all the time about Bush, the war, etc.

A little about me, at 21 this was the first Presidential election I was able to vote in. I also became very heavily involved as a volunteer, and am continuing my work by being a member of our county's Republican Executive Committee and starting a youth outreach program for teens to educate them about the truth of our party and what it stands for (tax hating, gun toting, god loving Republicans! J/K we talk history, policy, etc :) ). I have been married for 2 1/2 years and we're thinking about starting a family next year...and I don't want my kids to grow up in a socialist society.

I am frankly afraid of what will conspire in the next 2 years. I say 2 because in 2010 the GOP is going to kick some donkey in the Senate elections when everyone realizes just what "civilian militia" and "share the wealth" really means.

That article about the ammunition is scary and stupid for several reasons. Scary: they are essentially removing our right to protect ourselves, not to mention the ammunition that needs to be destroyed? How will they find that? Oh, wait, yeah that civilian militia Obama wants...Stupid: Um, bullets usually don't make it out of a person in pristine condition, they are flattened. How are they going to get these little numbers off them? Someone could steal you're specially coded ammo. Criminals aren't getting the guns they use legally. Do they think they are buying the ammo at their local Wal Mart? Get real.

So...on the lighter side I have two cats and a dog, like to scrapbook, craft and crochet, love all things Disney and go to WDW roughly once a month. I work at a bank and like to just hang out with my hubby.

:welcome: I'm 23 (gonna be 24 at the end of next month, I'm getting old :scared: kidding!!!) My whole thing about the ammo is that right now they can trace the ammo back to the gun because of what kind of ammo they use. If the bad guys start making their own ammo, that's bad news :sad2:

By any chance do you know how to do a photobook on Shutterfly?

I made a family cookbook for my DH family this christmas on shutterfly...
it is basically a photobook.... let me tell you his mom and sisters just loved it...
It was pretty easy.... do you have any specific questions about the process??

Shh.....my oldest DS has his first girlfriend...

My kids are growing up...
:goodvibes That's great!!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

She's doing pretty good. She's recovered well from that surgery last Wednesday. They haven't called with the final results though, so we're thinking they'll just tell her at her appointment next week. I'm praying the initial results that said non-cancerous were right. Trying not to think about it too much. She had her MRI yesterday and some other test called Gamma something or other... I've never heard of it before. She gets those results next week too. Met with the chemo doctor last week, and he also doubts she'll need it (only if something extra shows up in all these other tests, which they don't expect). The (hopefully) last surgery to actually remove the problem area is next Friday. She's very much looking forward to that because she says then, even though she'll at least have radiation, the actual cancer that they see will be gone. I'll be so happy when it's gotten rid of too.

One thing I forgot to tell y'all last week was when she was in the room before they knocked her out for the surgery, a nurse came in and told my mom they were going to get her all ready to have a tube put down her throat. There was another woman there with the same last name getting throat surgery, and they had mixed up the darned it all charts. My mom was not happy, and neither was my dad (or me, when I was told about it). Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. And frankly that scares me to death if I ever have to have any kind of surgery at all. Wake up and they've done something to you that you didn't need? Hello, lawsuit.
Good to hear that she's doing pretty well, SD. Though your last paragraph there is a little  !!!

I'll be there!!! Don't know if I'll be working that day or not, but I'll be there!!:cool1:

Yes, I HATE to see us on page 2.... one of my biggest pet peeves!!:lmao:

I'll preface the comments with stating I haven't read the book. However, it's so very true. The founding fathers believed in freedom OF religion -- not freedom FROM religion. It's a distinction that I think a lot of people either don't get or conveniently forget.

Btw, first time responder in this thread. Now to see if I can keep up with things. Stuff moves so quickly here it seems!

 Welcome!!!

Wait- I thought that Breezy was running? :confused3 I can't run against the person that brings all of the great food. I'm sure she wouldn't share with her opponent and then I'd starve from malnourishment and then she'd win by default…

Yup, I’m sure that’s her evil plan. ::yes::

Muahahahaha.......:teeth:

Ok, then, Dolce is the VP.:hippie:

 :cool1:

Well, I can't share all of them. Actually, there were 1500 and I've narrowed it down to 1000.

:hyper: popcorn::

Hey everyone! I am THRILLED to have found the conservative/Republican thread! .

 Welcome!!!
Soon your dream will come true.....

Hi everyone...just a stop in to say HI popcorn::  :flower3: :yay:  :hippie: :goodvibes
:yay:  Hiya chickie!!!

:headache: I'm supposed to be fasting from here (I made that decision), and look what I'm doing. <sigh> Food fasting is easy compared to DIS fasting! I'm weak. ;)

Blestmom - I just read Strengthen Yourself In The Lord by Bill Johnson (I think that's his name) I give it two thumbs up - good read. Oh, and I was pulling for you to get the AP's ;)

I don't know Soarin...we're night owls i guess, and us early birds have to get things moving again in the morning.

:thumbsup2

I've just been sitting here wondering where all my company was...:goodvibes

OK except for you, and you apparently don't sleep. You're up late and early...but I was the same way when I was your age. Between my jobs (3 of them) and school my day ended around midnight and began again at 6am

:lmao: No, I don't sleep. I always say I'm going to bed after Glenn's show is over at midnight (speaking of which, it is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to call in to his radio show- I've been trying all morning and keep getting a busy signal:headache: ) and like three hours later, I'll still be up. I usually run on about five hours of sleep.

yep, you'll be hard pressed to make it through to him, and you'll hold for over an hour if you do. He's commented on that a few times. I wish I could though.

I run on 4-5 hours a night usually myself. I get up for work at 4am. I start getting ready for bed around 10, but that includes taking a hot bath, which I soak in for about 30minutes to an hour depending on how involved in my book I become, then get to bed between 11 and midnight.

This is good actually. It will prepare you for motherhood. Right now I'm running on 4-5 hours of interrrupted sleep. :headache: I would like to say that - I miss sleeping. :cloud9:
I have no idea why, but for the past month DD has been waking all through the night. And here I just read in one of those parenting books that for her age she should be sleeping 10-11 hours a night.

Who writes those books?

Today I look like this----------

I'm not kidding!

It MUST be GWB's fault!

Like I would really care about being put on hold for over an hour.....:rolleyes1 It would be totally worth it to me.:goodvibes

EDIT: OMG someone just answered the phone!!!! But unfortunately for me he's through with the show for today.... ok, that gives me hope... NOOO not hope!!! BAD WORD!!! Ummm..... that gives me..... grrrr, another word for that bad h--- word.....

 Yeah, now I'm sort of not really looking forward to motherhood anymore..... just kidding.:goodvibes I want kids. Seriously. But whoever my DH turns out to be is gonna have to let me sleep and he can take care of the kids every once and awhile....:rolleyes1

:welcome:

Oh, and I'm 21, too. Yay for young Republicans! Oh, and I'm headed for grad school. People who love to say the libs are the only ones who get education can eat their heart out!!! :lmao:

I was the President of my College Republican chapter at UCLA and got a degree in Philosophy. Don't get a much more liberal education than that! :)

You're correct about that!!:goodvibes

We're just glad you chose the conservative side of the fence.... it's a lot more fun over here.:thumbsup2

I feel truly blessed that our DD has slept through the night since she was 8 weeks old -- 8pm until 7am. I have no idea how we managed that or got so lucky. I know she's a freak more than being the norm. I think people write it's normal behavior because they wish it was so and not necessarily because it's true in reality :)

I'm going to use that the next time she's fussy or gets into something she shouldn't. I may as well take advantage of Buckeroo Scapegoat too!

My parents always said I was the same way when I was a baby- but it obviously didn't last long because I never sleep now!:rotfl:
