Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Funny how they want Christians to be tolerate of their beliefs but they are not tolerant of Christian beliefs.

I think that a mass majority of those people have "it's all about me" syndrome.
:thumbsup2 How right you are!

Whew, thanks everyone. I didn't even think about the universal health care issue, the last thing on my mind! So there is a belief that Conservatives do not want people to have health care? I don't remember that from my Conservative days! I don't like the idea of universal health care, myself.

But you all are very welcoming, maybe I'll stick around and get assimilated! :rotfl:

And why do people want to ban Nativities? There are many holidays around this time of year, why would we ban symbols of any of them? No Nativities, no Menorahs, no Yule logs, no whatever symbol that represents your beliefs? Seems silly. I wish people worked as hard to stop war, work at an animal shelter, feed the homeless and hungry, helping their fellow man. Go volunteer where the good you do makes a difference in someone's life.

I believe in separation of church and state, but I think things get a little ridiculous. If the state is using The Bible or Christianity to write laws, starts making me go to church, or telling me that I have to follow the tenets of Christianity, that would be wrong and I would fight it. Putting out a decorative Nativity just does not seem something to get your knickers in a twist about.

I'm off to read.
Hi Finny!

:thumbsup2

However...

While I have no problem being in the VP slot, I feel it's only fair to the conservative base that the most conservative candidate take the #1 slot. Therefore, out of respect to the conservative base....

That's great, Teresa! :thumbsup2 You know what you have to do now, don't you? Start a thread about this calendar. :lmao: That shoudl keep us rolling all evening. ;)

Do you really think I should? I know I have a "fan club" already, so this should really get them talking!:lmao:

Meh... you'd better not listen to me, Teresa. I'll probably get us all in trouble. :goodvibes

Too late!;)

Predictable, yet entertaining. :teeth:

Okay everyone, this is an honest question....seriously....

We have a Chrysler lease that we have to turn in soon and the offers that Chrysler has are really good. We were just going to buy our lease, but believe it or not, the deals on new cars are so good that we're going to go new. I was told by my sales guy (we know him well), that because we are turning in a lease and because of employee incentives, we'd get $11,000 in incentives on a Chrysler Aspen (similar to a Durango) and that's before my dad's Chrysler employee discount.

Here's my dilemma - it's a gas guzzler - 13 city, 18 hwy. Currently, my minivan gets about 15 city and 22-24 hwy. We need to have a vehicle that seats 7 and it must be a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep product. (Long story, but we always have a GM product and a Chrysler product to keep both sides of the family happy). I really don't want another van - I hate vans, but I'm wondering if I should just suck it up and buy a van anyway, even though I'd like the Durango/Aspen instead.

If I get the Durango/Aspen, do you think I'll regret it? I have heard rumors of Obama possibly taxing gas guzzling automobiles higher than hybrids and other cars. I'd love to get a Durango hybrid, but that auto is $50,000!!!!! Can't afford that.

I've looked at the Dodge Journey, but the gas mileage on that isn't much better. Can't think of it off the top of my head, but I wasn't impressed.

Your thoughts on this? I need something that fits 7 people and it must be a Chrysler. Think I'd be stupid to get the Durango? It will be a buy, so I'll be stuck with it for a long time (and I'm talking Obama's tax policies on gas/autos specifically, not the car itself).

Thanks! (Hope I made sense. I have a four year old talking "Thomas" (the Tank Engine) to me so I'm having a hard time thinking...)

I'm not against medical care for people.
I'm against people who will never pay for it by using the ER for a stuffy nose and making the tax payers pay for it.
I'm against universal healthcare and not getting people getting needed medical care because the gov't decides they're not going to let you have a needed test or medication.

I think insurance rates need to be way lower and they should stop trying to gyp people (it happened to us). When I worked outside the home my insurance rates for me and DH were through the roof. Granted, we had a good HMO, but it was over $400 a month just for the two of us!
When DH's spleen got lacerated in Feb 07, we went to our approved ER. We weren't seen for over an hour. By the time we were, the Trauma Team had been rotated to the other hospital's ER and we were sent there and DH was in ICU for a week and regular ward for 3 days.
The HMO paid for the ICU and hospital stay at the other hospital, but we had to pay for non-admitted ER trip for our regular hospital. We explained that our hospital sent us to the other one, but no avail. We had to pay it.

Soi yes, it does need revamping, but free mediocre healthcare for all isn't going to help anyone.

Have you looked at the Dodge Nitro? Seems to get better MPGs than the Durango.

IMHO, I would get the one that has the highest MPGs and best resale value and I wouldn't care being loyal to a company that a relative works for. If gas jumps back to 3 or 4 bucks a gallon, you'll be glad you did.

The mini-van is going to be the best value if you really have to stick with a Chrysler product. You might just have to suck it up and be seen in one again.

DW drives a Durango Limited. She loves it. I would suggest getting the Hemi. It actually gets better mileage than the V6 & small V8 on the highway......bit of a dog on mileage in the city tis true. The Hemi has the ramp down technology in the engine and it can shut off cylinders as needed on the highway. She averages 20mpg on the hi-way.

I would drive a SUV before I would drive a minivan, but that's just me.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

We love Thomas the Tank Engine here.....er DS2 does anyways.

I'm in the same predicament. I'm just days past my lease. I wanted to buy used for the first time in... ummm since 1986? We can't find used for a better price per month than A plan. Financing is better with A plan. We did the number crunch and even with all my driving its still cheaper to get the non hybrid escape over the hybrid. *that is us downgrading from an explorer/freestyle size to an escape* The gas mileage is good. It'll fit the hockey bag. I'll miss the third row seat but we really rarely used it.

so... just going with basic info because I don't know GM cars that well, don't go hybrid, go with a new lease *I'm guessing someone can get you a friends and family whatever plan?(I think its xyz).

I know with the escape, the 09's are pricing out cheaper than me going with an 08. Weird, but fine with me!

If you do want to go with Ford... and you're driving down here...I'll make dh give you one of his A plan papers or I'll just get my dad's. *yeah, dad, don't you remember cousin so and so? Her daughter is Meghan?* :)

ETA>> I'm with SUV over minivan, too. I've had two minivans when DS was little. I was sooo glad to get out of them and drive a real vehicle again!

You have to admit, you can spend HOURS building tracks. I love Thomas toys - they are durable and the kids can pretty much imagine the day away playing with them. These are toys that will never be in a garage sale. I admit to playing with them myself. (Shhhh)

I know!! We have train tracks set up all over the house.......

I laugh everytime I hear George Carlin on the DVD's though.....I keep expecting him to start cursing at any time.....

LOL - you're so sweet Deb, but to keep family peace, I HAVE to get a Chrysler product this time. My dad retired from Chrysler and DH's dad retired from GM and it's pretty much written into our vows that we would have one of each in the driveway at all times. If I bought a Ford, I'd be in deep trouble. :) (The Escape is cute though). - I remember when a friend of mine had a Toyota. Dad wouldn't let him park near the house or even turn around in our driveway. If I went with a foreign car, I'd be one dead girl. Seriously. With a Ford, I'd just be disowned.

So, DH has a Chevy truck and I need to get a Chrysler. Keeps peace in the family, ya know? ;)

Ohh I so understand! We were told that if we bought domestic non ford we'd have to park it on the street. If we bought foreign, dad was going to push it into the lake. No, he wasn't joking.

I just know that many of us one -company, Michigan people have considered other Big Three products. *considered as in thought about for maybe a second. LOL*

adding to that.. When I was dating DH he was a test driver at the GM Milford Proving Grounds. Guess who switched companies to marry me?

And here my husband offered to convert to Catholicism. :rotfl:

(Those of you who don't live in Michigan probably don't get what we are talking about, but the automotive field IS like a religion here - kind of like an ethnic thing too).

My sister and I used to play with Thomas toys when we were younger- then we passed them down to my brother.;)

**I'm a raised Polish Catholic Ford** :)

Have fun tonight! With my pedigree automatically comes a hockey part. I have to go worship at the alter of the zamboni for a game in the city. I keep telling DS to finish his homework. We're going to be late!
