Abortion is legal, and a service at some Planned Parenthoods, why wouldn't the gift card be good for it? It is like giving someone a pre-paid Visa/Mastercard isn't it? That would also be able to be used for abortion if the clinic took Visa/Mastercard?

I guess I don't understand the outrage about a card being able to be used to pay for a medical service? I understand outrage at abortion, itself, from people who are not pro-choice, but I don't understand outrage at how people pay for one. :confused3

I don't care how people pay for medical care.

If you don't understand, it means that you lack the ability to see issues from a perspective other than your own. I can understand why some people wouldn't have an issue with this. You don't have to agree with people in order to comprehend the reasons something may or may not offend them.

it is vulgar and base to present payment for a medical service as a Christmas, birthday, or other holiday "gift". this, and so very many other things, should remain private. if the money is being given in payment for that particular service, it should be given quietly and privately.

a better gift might be a copy of emily posts' book.:snooty:

Well GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!! I have tag envy!!!!

:wave2:  I'm with ya. I didn't expect it. I just responded to someone's post on Breezy's thread and was very surprised to see the tag. Mind you, I was hoping to get one but then I had to post and run, so I thought it wouldn't happen.

Congrats on the tag. :thumbsup2 Which chinchilla tag have you been eyeing? :rotfl:

I was eyeing rentayenta's tag about kissing chinchillas on the lips. For some reason whenever I would see that tag, it would crack me up.

BTW - Thank you Breezy for starting that thread!!! You feed us and get us tags. Do you have any plans to run for office someday? Well, you'd get my vote.

You mean like this? :lovestruc

men.jpg

Well now...that was just...very enjoyable! :goodvibes

random thought, and not looking for a tag because I don't think the TF is political, but does anyone else buy kraft mac/cheese dinner just to use the cheese packets for popcorn?

Um...no. But I do love parmesan cheese on popcorn, so maybe it would be good. I don't buy the usual mac-and-cheese, but the white cheddar.

Hm...you've given me an idea...!

Lemon zinger may be the only herbal tea I actually like. I love tea, but I want caffeine in my tea! I'm an Earl Grey kinda gal.

I love herbal tea. My favorite is Good Earth tea...decaf.

(I'm trying to go to bed earlier so I'm not a zombie all day).

I'm trying that going-to-bed-early thing, too. Ha! Who am I kidding?

I just can't go to bed early. This is the rough time of year...when we get very little sunlight. I can't get up and sit around in the dark, so I tend to stay up a little later (okay...a lot later) and sleep in a bit. Just a couple more weeks until winter solstice, and we start adding daylight...little by little!

Last night, I heard two moose in the backyard calling to each other. Know what a moose sounds like? Kind of a cross between a cow and a foghorn.

Just some useless trivia you may be interested in some day...:rotfl2:

I've recently discovered red tea and I LOVE it!!! Add a bit of honey and....:cloud9:

:rotfl2: Thanks, that trivia might come in handy someday.

I don't care how people pay for medical care.

My problem is that I am the one paying for these abortions or at least a third of them, although I am morally opposed to them. PP made a little over 1 billion dollars last year with a profit of over 115 million dollars. Nice work for a government funded non-profit, huh? Taxpayers, me for instance, gave PP $336 million - a third of its income!

In my work with pro-life organizations, we've worked with women who have had past dealings with PP. All that liberal compassion we're supposed to believe happens when a woman decides to 'choose' - HA! Unless she has money right off the bat, they won't talk to her. Do they offer her another service besides abortion, such as adoption? No way! Don't even get me started on the stories I've heard from women who have suffered botched abortions or 'abortions' when they weren't pregnant.

The gall of PP to offer anything like this, and yes, they have admitted that these could be used for abortions, is staggering. The blind eye our government- Republican and Democratic alike - has turned against this 'organization' is appalling. If any hospital in the US was as lax medically or any corporation tried the tax-evading tactics that these 'professionals' use, it would be shut down in a heartbeat.

Speaking of PP, here's another little jewel about them:

http://liveactionfilms.org/

A college student posed as a 13 year old trying to get an abortion in IN. The '13-year old' told the PP staff member that the father was 31. This is a felony in IN but did the PP staff member call the police? Child Protective Services? Her parents? Nah -- instead she told the 13 year old that she could just go to IL to get an abortion and that she didn't even 'hear' what she had said about the 31-year old.

To PP's credit, when this was widely reported, this staff member was suspended.....we'll see how long that lasts....

This sure has been a busy thread tonight. Spent most of my time catching up on this thread and admiring my FIRST TAG!!!

:woohoo: They happen when you least expect them. I had like 3600 posts before I got one. Now, I've gotten 3 in 3 days. I think the Tag Fairy is stalking me.;) I saw one poster with 86,000 posts before their first tag. :scared1: Is that a set up?

I wanted to let you guys know that I'm in love....

I usually get the Whole Nut but this time I got the Royal Dark Chocolate and all I can say is
I have a bar of that sitting on our dining room table right now! :lovestruc I don't like milk chocolate really, but I love me some dark chocolate. It's actually quite heart healthy, too.

Think we should start a thread?:lmao: :lmao: Or maybe include that in our next thread-

The Conservative Thread: We've Never Heard of Almond Bark and Wear VS Underwear!

Just saying......:rotfl:
:rotfl2:

Oh, and bad news...because DH's job cut his hours down we will not be going to DLR/DCA during Christmas.
I'm sorry, T&G. Hope his hours return to normal soon.

I think the guys who post on this thread might take offense to our VS wearing ways... :lmao:

I must say that if I am required to wear VS undies to post here, I will have to move over to the Lib thread!

On second thought, I don't think I could take it over there......does VS come in bigger manly sizes?
:rotfl:

You mean like this? :lovestruc

The one in the middle is mine. I heard he needs a woman to cha-cha with! :dance3:
Ya know, I must be picky, but I find very few major actors truly attractive. Johnny Depp is handsome. So is Will Smith. I always though Heath Ledger was adorable. :sad1:

Leo used to look great, but he's let himself go, kinda like Tobey Maguire does now and again. I have little comment on the rest of those guys in that picture, basically ranging from "Meh" to "Ick." :lmao:

The only actors I think are really, really handsome are Ben Barnes from Prince Caspian (don't laugh at me, please! :rotfl: ), Brandon Barash from General Hospital, and Jay Hernandez. I'm partial to dark brown hair. ;)

random thought, and not looking for a tag because I don't think the TF is political, but does anyone else buy kraft mac/cheese dinner just to use the cheese packets for popcorn?
Never have, but that actually sounds quite good. Thanks for the idea!

Is there a thread about the Planned Parenthood gift cards that could be used to pay for an abortion?
Just the fact that it's a GIFT CARD given out by PP makes me sick to my stomach. That is way over the line. :sad2:
To me, it's sick. Here's why: When I think gift cards, I think gift cards to bookstores, clothing stores, jewelry stores, movies, sporting events, restaurants, etc. Not "Here's a gift card to pay for an abortion. Merry Christmas!" :sad2: No, they're not all used for that, but as has been said, it is one of the things people can use the cards for.

Hi everyone, This is my last sign on before we leave for WDW in the morning. :cool1:
Have a great time! :wizard:

I need to call it a night. It's past my new bedtime (I'm trying to go to bed earlier so I'm not a zombie all day). I don't how I can possibly sleep, though. I'm all worked up about the abortion gift cards and I am still dealing with a raging craving for peppermint bark. If I can't track some down tomorrow, I'm buying the ingredients to make it. Thanks a lot, Breezy, you started this ;)

On that note, I say good night conservative friends!
Night, Hilarie!

86,000????:scared1: Yup, that's a set-up!

Deb....

That'd be too bad, I'd be so sad, I might get mad, I'd tell my dad. That'd be too bad....that'd be too bad.

I don't care how people pay for medical care.

Here's my issue with the deal, if anyone is interested. Without going into all my personal parameters, I believe abortion should stay legal and is sometimes warranted. However...the gift card thing is just really distasteful to me. What jumps into my mind is who gives it to whom, what is the context, and what is that saying?

Wow! You all have been busy tonight. And you all had me laughing about the VS title :goodvibes

That'll work for awhile, but not for long. Look at the Carter presidency, for example. No one was going around saying "Well at least he's better than Nixon." They just knew they had an incompetent on their hands with Jimmuh Carter, and that he had to go. Should Obama prove to be incompetent, it will become readily apparent to the American people very quickly. Obama knows this. I don't know why his supporters don't. If something bad happens under Obama, and he or any of his people invoke GWB's name as somehow at fault, it will make the Obama presidency appear unprepared, juvenile, and incompetent. Americans don't want a president who points fingers (we have children for that); they want a president who acts with power and conviction.
I agree!

:lmao: :rotfl2:

Question: Does anyone here go and post on the liberal thread??:confused3

Nope! I read a page on their thread once, but I got so irritated, so stopped reading.

Hi. I'm new to politics this year but please correct me if I'm wrong: The past few years weren't you guys having problems with the liberals (that have now turned into the OS) crying foul every time someone brought up an issue that began in the Clinton administration? Weren't they telling you guys that Clinton was out and that it is the current President who is responsible for the current failings in the country? On Jan 20 won't it be bye-bye Bush and hello lets-blame-everything-on-Obama as he's now the standing President? Isn't that the rule they wanted you guys to play over the last eight years? Shouldn't the same rule apply to them? :confused3
 I can see that point of view. I'm new to politics, too :goodvibes . Well, I mean learning more about candidates and issues. I've learned so much from all of you on this thread.

:lmao: I think that VS needs to come out with a men's line. It might do well.
I think they should, too.

random thought, and not looking for a tag because I don't think the TF is political, but does anyone else buy kraft mac/cheese dinner just to use the cheese packets for popcorn?
Oh, what a great idea! I love cheese popcorn. Sometimes we sprinkle parmeson cheese on popcorn.

No, it's not. I heard it on the radio the other day and it was on the national news tonight.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=82069

I'm sure PP defenders will say that they are meant for other services. Well, that's true but PP also say they could be used for an abortion.

That is so sad. It's like, "here is a giftcard in case or when you need a .." Just bad.

I cried more than just a little, and got caught doing it, too. My dh was all concerned "what's wrong, honey?" :lmao: I just held up the book and he left the room shaking his head.

It had a very gratifying ending, didn't it?
I can't wait to read it. I'm on the waiting list to check it out at the library. :yay:

H now has his own paid legal holiday::sad2:

Save the date: Ala. county passes Obama holiday

MARION, Ala. (AP) — In central Alabama's Perry County, government workers already get a day off for President's Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Veterans Day. In 2009, they'll get one more: "Barack Obama Day."

The rural county, which overwhelmingly supported Obama in last month's presidential election, has approved the second Monday in November as "The Barack Obama Day." Commissioners passed a measure that would close county offices for the new annual holiday and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid day off.Sponsoring commissioner Albert Turner Jr. said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect's victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.
Perry County has 12,000 residents, most of them black. Voters there backed Obama by over 70 percent in a state that gave 60 percent of the overall vote to Republican John McCain based largely on strong support from white voters.

At the state level, Alabama observes the standard federal holidays as well as a handful of its own that include Confederate Memorial Day in April and the June birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. It observes Martin Luther King's birthday in January but the holiday is twinned with commemoration of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee on the same day.

The Perry County Commission's three black members and one of its two white members voted for the Obama holiday.

Commissioner Brett Harrison said Wednesday he voted against the resolution because of the costs to the county, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. He said closing the courthouse would also idle some state employees.

"I'm a Democrat, but just in these financial times, it's not using the county's money wisely," Harrison told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday. "The recognition is certainly well-founded."

Turner said copies of the resolution, adopted at a Nov. 25 meeting, have been mailed to Obama and his transition team.

Good grief.

I know. If McCain had won I highly doubt we'd have John McCain Day. :headache:
Isn't that the truth? Of course there wouldn't be any JM plates or coins or mini statues that you can take with you anywhere (j/k had to throw that last one in there).

Congratulations on your new tags! WTH is dorfus chickendoodle? :confused3

I just started to calculate how long it would take me to get to 86,000 posts. Then I realized that at the rate I post, I'll be posting from my grave to get that high a post count!:rotfl:

Being a government employee, I get more than my share of days off and love them! Gotta love socialism! But even little lazy me would have a problem about this one - can we say a little premature here? Wonder what happens in a couple of years when the country realizes how royally we were taken in? Do they lose the holiday?

A holiday for a man who hasn't even done anything? Wow. Just... wow. But then, that's my response to a lot of things liberals do, lol.

Hey, you have an avatar now. Is this you?

I know. If McCain had won I highly doubt we'd have John McCain Day. :headache:

What??:scared1: Is he now a god or something?? That's just what I'd want, a pocket-sized Obama that I could take with me everywhere.....:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

And T&G- so sorry about not being about to go to DL/DCA. I'll ride Soarin' in your honor at WDW since I know they have that at DCA as well.
