Conservative Columnist Says... "McCain Loses His Head"

I noticed he did not attempt to make an argument in favor of electing Obama.

Well, at bottom is comes down to who will do the least harm. Senator McCain will, even stipulating Mr. Wills' criticisms, do the least harm.

There have been many reports that McCain is a major league hot head. He is verbally abusive, angry, and unpleasant. That doesn't necessary mean he would be a crappy president, but if he is that impulsive and really does "personalize" these decisions as George Will suggests, he could certainly do a lot of damage.

McCain is running for office. He'll say stupid things just as Obama and every other candidtae has done. What one says as a candidate and what one will do as POTUS differs. This is not rocket science.

Maybe he shouldn't have his finger on the button. I respect and admire his service, but 5 years of torture may have taken a toll on his psyche.

I've always liked George Will, I've watched him for years on This Week. He's a real Conservative, the true definition of the word, not the part of the Republican party that's been co-opted by the religious right and corporations. When he's on tv in the round-table discusions, he doesn't get upset, angry, or puffed up. He just quietly and camly states his position, often with a very dry sense of humor (which I love), and his columns reflects that (or his tv spots reflect his columns, whatever).

This last Sunday they were of course talking about the financial meltdown and the bailout, and I was not feelin' the love from George towards McCain. He was not impressed in the least at McCain's preformance last week, not at all.

I wonder what being abandoned by your father, bounced around between your mother and racist grandparents and sent from country to country does for your psyche? And I'm not saying it does, but your argument is outrageous.

McCain returned from being a POW, was evaluated and received a prestigious appointment to the War College, received a prestigious command position and then assigned as Naval Liaison to Congress. He's then gone on to serve admirably in both the Congress and the Senate and you have the audacity to question his psyche? After what he has gone through, I would say he has a stronger psyche than most Americans

Yes, I agree, but can we trust him with America's nuclear arsenal? Can we take the chance? Anyway, in my opinion he is unfit because he picked a flip-flopping floozy, trailer trash hillbilly for his vp. I think his mind is already going.

Mccain hasn't talked about making peace, he keeps talking about more War. I think he has been waiting to have his time where he does have control over weapons and can do what he wants.

Both him and Palin have said they are going to be vigilant and they are not going to take any crap, not exactly in those words. But we don't need more war our economy can't take it. So why would I vote for someone who wants to continue with the past 8 years of policies?

You don't want to go there,do you? Obama did say that he attended a "predominantly Muslim" school as a child. As we all know our childhood upbringing does play a role in our lives as adults. Maybe he was indoctrinated into the "kill the infidel" Muslim model. Surely he can't be trusted to have his finger on the button.

Do you know any Muslims? Do you have any idea how insulting your post is? To insinuate that every school for Muslim children is a cauldron of hatred is ridiculous and offensive. :sad2:

I hate to use emoticons, I really do, but: :scared1:

Actually, he did imply that Obama was the better candidate and that Obama could be fixed, while McCain could not and would continue to do harm:

It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

Whoa! My post was a tongue in cheek response to SteveInBrooklyn's response that because McCain was a POW he shouldn't be trusted to have his finger on the button because it took a toll on his psyche.

Considering that McCain sings about bombing Iran, I think Steve is on to something.

Well, he's a hot-head, he's really old, and he's had a very traumatic, violent past. Is it so wrong to worry?

So what about the trauma faced by a kid whose dad abandons him? I'd think that would affect his psyche in a very profound way. Maybe that's something to worry about as well.

Actually, he said "may have taken a toll on his psyche". May, as in, possibly. You said "it took" as if it was a fact, a foregone conclusion.

Steve's question is valid, as surely there can be no doubt in anyone's mind that the 5+ years John McCain spent as a prisoner of war has helped to shape the man he is today.
