Connecting Rooms...your experience

I've requested connecting rooms for our trip at the end of August and not sure what to make of it all. I read that they can't guarantee them but on our reservation confirmation that Disney sent it says "guaranteed"? Now I guess if we get to CBR and we don't have conecting rooms I can pull out the booking and ask why I was told it was guaranteed when it wasn't. When I booked and the CM told me it was guaranteed I doubled checked since I'd read here that they don't guarantee them. Hopefully it won't be an issue since CBR is such a big resort and we are going at the end of August which tends to be less busy (and now that they aren't offering free dinning might even be less so). I do think they should get their stories straight when booking peoples holidays because this could be really improtant to some people and if you say "it's guaranteed" and it isn't well that could cause major issues for people. For us it wouldn't be ideal as we are 2 adults and 3 kids but the oldest is 16 so as long as we had rooms right beside each other it should be ok. Oh well no point in worrying about it till we see what happens.:confused3

Read the fine print.

All Disney guarantees is a room on property. Anything else can be changed due to occupancy.

So pulling out your booking won't help you at all. In fact, Disney will just point out the fine print.

Well in that case the CM shouldn't have really told me it was guaranteed since really it isn't and it's kind of unfair of Disney to do this then. In my case it won't be a huge deal, not ideal but not a huge deal, but for others it might. So either something is guaranteed which means you get it no if ands or buts or its a request and we will do our best...I can live with that as well. Rather they were honest then tell me its guaranteed when it isn't as thats just not fair. Oh well I'm quite sure for us it will all be fine in the end though if my two older DD are in a room too themselves and its not conecting we might have one heck of a time getting them up in the mornings! :rotfl2:

There is the rub. You cannot just put your older DDs in a room by themselves, unless one of them is 18. An adult would have to sleep in each room. Disney policy. And if you violate that policy and are caught they are well within their rights to cancel your reservation and send you on your way, minus the money you have paid.

Really I was wondering about that. What would happen to someone who only had one adult and a bunch of kids? Well we'll work it all out one way or the other. On the upside if dh and I had to be in different rooms we'd at least get a the double bed to ourselves and not have to share. Alls good!

I have never requested or needed to request a connecting room however I always seem to get them. The last trip my 4 yr old dd opened our door while I was in the shower and knocked on the neighbors door yelling "is anybody in there?"

I highly doubt you will have any problems getting connecting rooms. Most people don't! Me, I'm kind of known for being a problem magnet when it comes to my rooms at WDW. :guilty: Not only have I been denied connecting rooms, but I've been downgraded twice. Most people don't have the kind of luck I have!

I've seen posts where they refused to book 2 rooms with only 1 adult. You would have to get a room that fits your party size.

Just piping in here. We've requested connecting rooms three times at POP and gotten them (June, August, and December). The first time, our oldest was 16, and our youngest was 14. He has asthma. When I mentioned that, I was told that they would guarantee the connecting rooms for medical reasons. We are going next month and our kids are 21 or older--and no more asthma issues. I requested connecting rooms. My reservation says guaranteed connecting rooms even though they are both adults (age wise anyway!). There's no need to quote me and tell me to read the fine print. That point has been made. :) I understand all that about nothing is guaranteed! I'm just telling my experience.

When I booked I said, "I know you do not guaranteed connecting rooms, but I'd like to request them," and I was told that w/the amount of toddlers we had in our group we'd be guaranteed connecting.
I had to later cancel that booking and when I rebooked, I was told the exact same thing by another CM.
So, yes ... is there fine print to every agreement, sure. But I think that unless there is a highly, highly situation you'll get a "guaranteed" room if you're told you fall into their specific categories.

There must be someone over 18 in each room so that's impossible. They would be directed to book a family suite, cabin or DVC 2 bedroom.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm not sure what we'll do. We may try for the connecting rooms and if we don't get them, we'll crowd into one room. :sad2:

We have requested and received connecting rooms on all of our numerous trips to WDW. Our trips were mostly in the slow season, which might have increased our chances. They will do their best to try accommodate connecting room requests, but canl not guarantee it.

They don't have "their specific categories". They have rooms that hold from two to twelve guest plus one child under three and they expect the guest to reserve the appropriately accommodating room for their party size. While assigned whenever possible, connecting rooms are never guaranteed. It stinks that apparently many reservationists don't understand this, but guests should address that with Disney.

The other three times, we have asked for connecting rooms at the check-in desk, but have been told the only way to get them was to come back next morning and make the request again. Then they would move us to new rooms. I think this is an effective way of deflecting such requests, since many people will just settle into what they have been given and not want the bother of moving the next day.

I think they try their best, as you can see from our experience.

I disagree that it's any kind of attempt to deflect requests for connecting rooms. If that were the case, the suggestion wouldn't even be made. Moreikely, it's done because there just plain aren't any connecting rooms available that night but there will be the next.

We booked a connecting room with my mom, she needed a handicap room we did not.
The poly was amazing to us.
This was an amazing trip, and was the last for my mom. Thanks to WDW and the poly for being accommodating and amazing to us!!

Technically that is not allowed either, unless you all fit into one room under Disney's guidelines. Using the rooms in ways that don't adhere to Disney's guidelines constitutes fraud, and means they can ask you to leave. Not something I would want to worry about at all, no matter how slim the chance of being found out.

If you simply have to all be in one space, the best thing to do is book a suite of some kind. The family suites at the Music resort are the cheapest. AoA's suites are a bit more expensive. How many people are in your family, and where are you staying?

We have only asked once this past April and we got our connecting room. We had booked 3 rooms, direct with Disney, linked the reservations, and all 3 rooms were together 2 connecting. This was our 2nd time staying at Pop. It really was a huge plus. Hope you get what you ask for.

UCAs package has you put 4 girls in a room and families are instructed to mAke their own ressies. We have 4 coaches for 60 cheerleaders so it seems to assume there will not be an adult in each room. How does this work with the adult in each room policy?

If I'm understanding this correctly, you would book two rooms but if they aren't connecting, you would put everyone into one room but still pay for two rooms?

To each their own but seems to be a bit much. I love my husband but I can certainly sleep away from him for a few nights.
