Connecting room with bunks at the Grand?

My sister and I are taking our two (each, so 4 kids total) to DLR in a couple of weeks. We have rooms at GCH and requested connecting rooms but then I also said "if they had bunk beds that would be awesome!" But then I got to thinking...what if one room has them and the connecting room doesn't? As ridiculous as it might sound (and I swear our kids are not total brats), I don't want to start off the trip with any kind of disappointment! And if two kids get them and two kids don't...disappointment will be felt! I feel obnoxious calling again but is it reasonable to say, connecting rooms are more important than bunk beds and if both don't have them, we'd prefer neither? I know it's all request only, but I've always been given what I request. And I am normally not this obnoxious...

What do you think?

Has anyone encountered connecting rooms, both with bunks?

Also, I do realize that there are not many bunk bed rooms lefts, so this may be a moot point, huh? Ugh...I'm rambling now!

I would call and ask if they even have 2 connecting rooms with bunk beds on both sides and adjust your request accordingly simply because it will ease your mind. I have four kids and we do not have bunk beds at home. I totally understand that bunk beds are a big deal. Good luck.

If only one has bunks, then the solution is that the kids swap beds and each gets a 'turn'. If you're only staying one night, you either draw straws (if they're old enough to accept the results) or the non-bunk kids get the 'pillow chocolates' from turn down service or something similar.

I thought about switching. We're there for 3 nights but my niece has OCD and anxiety issues and she needs very clear and concise parameters. If she sleeps in a bunk one night it will throw her off majorly to move sleeping spots. Oh well, we'll be fine either way!!

I suspect that configuration does not exist.

Prior to the DVC expansion (2009) there were 154 bunk bed rooms out of 745 total. The rooms in the expansion have all been renovated (ironically the newest rooms were renovated first), so there are no bunk beds there.

If it eases your mind, I think it's perfectly acceptable to call the hotel again and clarify your request (after all, you're making a nice request and not a demand of any kind). I don't think it's important as to "why" you're making the request ... different families have different needs. However, since your niece has OCD issues, perhaps if you explained the situation it might help with your request being met as closely as possible given what's available from the hotel. Good luck! Enjoy your trip! :-)

You would not be unreasonable or demanding to call the GCH again in order to clarify your request. If what you really want is the following, then you should absolutely call the GCH and have them put that on the reservation:

  • need 2 connecting rooms
  • preferably 2 connecting rooms, each with bunk beds
  • BUT if only 1 of the 2 rooms has bunk beds, then please just put us in 2 connecting rooms with 2 queen beds each; no rooms with bunk beds.
As the GCH room renovations continue, your chance of getting anything with bunk beds is pretty slim. So just plan on getting connecting rooms with no bunk beds and if you DO end up with bunk beds in each room, then it's a bonus. That way, nobody ends up disappointed.

I would just call and ask. We've had bunk bed rooms several times and they always connected to a room with 2 queens.....

This was my ideal request on our trip last month (me, my two sisters, 5 small children). We would have rotated who got to sleep where. However, they didn't have any bunks available...as mentioned, they are phasing out.

OP- just an FYI, the bunks have a trundle underneath, so technically 3 can sleep on the bunk.

Thank you guys! I do get a bit self conscience about calling and requesting this and that - but I guess for the price, eh? Chances seem likely that we'd get connecting rooms both with queen beds and that'll be A-OK! 10 more days!!
