I know it states Disney does not guarantee connected rooms, but I was wondering what luck people have had in the past with receiving their request?
We'd like to go early/mid January 2016. It would be myself, hubby, DS12, DD9. {We had one room 2 years ago and the beds were tight then) Also if (and its a big if) my DS who serves in the Army might be joining us if he can get leave. So I'd really like the 2 rooms, but if we can't get connected rooms, then we'd have to sleep separate rooms if my oldest son can't make it down.
The suites are more money and I really doubt the oldest one wants to sleep on a pull out.

Given that many of the people visiting Disney *are* families, most of the people requesting connecting rooms *are* families. The bottom line is that unless they made every single room on property connecting, there is simply no way to fulfill all the requests. (Even if they were all connecting rooms, there would still be some who weren't able to get in connecting rooms because this isn't a cruise where everyone is boarding and disembarking the same day - people come and go on different days.)

Put in a request, sure. Say that it is because of children, sure. But you would have to book with an adult in each room, and there is no guarantee that the request will be honored. They do the best they can, but with pretty much everyone requesting rooms doing so due to children, they simply cannot fulfill all the requests.

We travel with a party of 7 (5 adults, 2 kids) and always request connecting rooms. We have been 8 times in the last 12 years and have always received our request. We didn't like our room location in 2013 at CBR and they were able to move us to a different island and still give us connecting rooms. We have stayed at Pop, AOA, CBR, POR, Yacht Club and gotten our connecting rooms at all. I would put your request in and hope for the best. If you are not given connecting rooms, see if they can move you. It can't hurt to ask.

Early Mid-January might be marathon time, so occupancy might be higher than other times. You could plan to be separated, but be pleasantly surprised if you get connecting rooms.

The makeup of the party who will be registered (I'm making a big assumption you will be registering only the definite four) means that you and your daughter or son can be in one room and your husband and the other child in another room so yes, you are correct your request is a request only.

I've requested connecting rooms several times and in different resorts. The only time we didn't get connecting rooms was when my mother-in-law insisted her sister needed to have a room in the 50s buildings at Pop Century and since we had two rooms initially that were connecting but the building preference won out, we didn't get connecting rooms.

So, I would advise that if you really wanted/needed connecting rooms, to have that as your only request.

My luck has been about 50-50 when it comes to getting connecting rooms.

I only requested connecting once & we did not get them. We received adjoining rooms not connecting.

I think if not having connected rooms would spoil the vacation, you need to look at suite or DVC rental options.

If you end up with two rooms that don't connect, Disney do expect you will split up the adults.

I've only requested a connecting room once and got it.

However, I have had a room with an adjoining door for the last 5-6 trips (and that's only when I started noticing)! Granted it doesn't mean that room would be available but I've always thought it was interesting.

My understanding is that if it is parents and children, they always get connecting rooms. My family of six has gotten connecting rooms 100% of the time. If you call the reservation line they can verify this for you, but I'm almost positive that is how it works.

Totally wrong!!!
Connecting rooms are never guaranteed - even though phone CM's often say they are. You have 2 adults and the adults can be split into 2 rooms, each with some kids
The only thing guaranteed is some room somewhere on Disney property, not even necessarily the resort you book. Read the fine print
There are frequent reports here on the DIS of irate folks who believed they had guaranteed connecting rooms not even being on the same floor or in the same building at Values or Moderates.
There simply are not enough connecting rooms to meet all requests.
If you must be together you must book a family suite or a DVC Villa.

Nope, doesn't work that way. Twice my wife and I have had to split up with the kids. One time we were in 2 different buildings and the other time we were on different floors.

Sorry, didn't realize, I wasn't trying to give incorrect information. Good luck with your upcoming trip.

I always stay value. I always ask for two rooms with a door in between and am always told it's not something they can guarantee. ..and I've always gotten it!

Good luck

No. To be specific, you got rooms with a CONNECTING door.

Adjoining rooms do not connect.

Not the case. There is no preference for parents with children. Two parents can split up if necessary and Disney knows that, even though it seems obvious that the parents intended to be together in one room with the children in a separate room. Have heard they won't even absolutely guarantee for a party with one adult and multiple minors. Such a party might receive priority over a party with two adults though, if necessary.

Disney resorts have a lot of connecting rooms, and they will do what they can to meet your request. It should help if you make it the only request - the more you narrow down the area of the resort you will accept, the less chance you have of their being able to meet the other requests for your check-in date. But it does remain a possibility that you won't get the connecting rooms.

No worries. Countless Disney CMs told us the same thing you posted. I just needed to reply to your post so others reading this post know the deal.

I don't know anything about connecting rooms, but I sure hope you meant early/mid January 2017 instead of 2016!!!!

I probably shouldn't say this too loudly, but there's apparently lots of availability for mid-Jan 16.
