Hey Guys !

So we are staying at AOA in September in the Little Mermaid Rooms. It will be me, DH, and DD. My MOTHER called and booked her disney vacay the same time as us-- which im fine with, but she also requested conjoining rooms with us.

Im a little annoyed- i love my parents but want my space on vacation. So i was wondering-- 1. Can disney really update my reservation and agree to conjoin my room with another reservation without asking me...
and 2. Does AOA Ariel rooms even have conjoining rooms since the majority of the resort is suites ?!

Thanks for the help !!

Not sure...but to be safe, why not call and tell them you don't want rooms that are joined together? Just in case? Maybe make a request for rooms on the same floor but separated. Then be all..."Bummer mom!" when you get there?

Maybe you can call and ask what the request was.
Adjoining rooms are next to each other. You have to go out into the hall, and then to the next one.
Connecting rooms are next to each other, but there is a door (inside) that can be opened (actually it's two doors, one on each side).

FWIW, When I travel with my adult kids I ask for not connecting, not adjoining, but same floor or nearby. This might be what you'd prefer, too.:thumbsup2

I would tell your mom you do not want connecting rooms.

Whats the chance of her getting the same room next to you?

when we went last year we had 4 rooms booked -- paid for by one person. booked through the same agent-- and we were all over the place.

I agree- that having your mom in at least the same floor

Your mother wouldn't have been able to add a request to your reservation, unless she had your reservation number. However, she certainly could have had a request placed on her reservation, that she was traveling with you, and wanted a room near yours.

A brief note on terminology: In hotel-speak, connecting rooms have an internal door between the rooms, so that you don't have to go out into the hall to go from one room to another. When you request adjoining rooms, you're asking to have your rooms as close together as possible, preferably next door.

If she requested 'conjoining', I really don't know how they would interpret that. They could think she meant either 'connecting' or 'adjoining'.

If you don't want connecting rooms, I would do two things. First, have a chat with your mother and let her know that you'd rather not have your room connected to hers. Better to have the conversation now than at the front desk, at the beginning of your vacation.

Next, I would call 407-WDISNEY and have a request added to your own reservation, that you do NOT want connecting rooms.

Many years ago, we traveled with another family. We stayed at POR. We actually did want connecting rooms. I called CRO and had a note made, tying our reservation to my friend's reservation. Then, my friend had to call and do the same thing....tie to my reservation. We had each other's reservation numbers.
Now, if 'mom' had your reservation number, she may have been able to request that connecting room. But I 'think' that unless you call and do the same thing, they will not tie the reservations together.

I would actually call and request to be a bit of a distance away..maybe a few doors.

I don't know if it makes a difference on who's paying, either. I have made several reservations at WDW in the last year for my adult kids. The ressies are on a separate numbers, in their name, address, just my CC. Each time CRO offered to add a request for adjoining/connecting rooms for our reservations. One of the sets of reservations was turned into a Grand Gathering, even though the total number of folks was 5. The other two sets they offered to "tie" together at booking.
I was a little surprised at how easy and quickly they offer this. I appreciate their help, it's just (my experience) that you have to be nicely firm if you do not want adjoining/connecting rooms on the request.
Another way to help avoid being right next to each other is to book different views..like one room standard, one room, say, garden view.

Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, I just think they have a much better vacation with a bit of space. They seem to appreciate it.

if Mom can confirm your name, address & telephone number then she can gain access into the reservation to make the request.. it could be how she worded things to the agent too...we don't know, especially when a parent of someone calls in, that the request isn't mutual.. adjoining rooms would be fine and if by some chance you get connecting rooms (which will be available in LM rooms) just play dumb and say there's trouble with your door and you cant open it into her room :littleangel:

Hahaha good idea. Thanks for the help

Many moons ago, I booked two hotel rooms for a little quick vacation: one room for my in-laws and one for hubs and I. I specifically requested that we not be placed in close rooms. They put us at opposite ends on the same floor... separated by a long, The Shining-type hallway. It was perfect! Or at least we thought so...

My MIL complained to the front desk about placing us so far apart and spent the rest of the vacation griping, "Why would they do that? ... "That must've been planned that way." :rolleyes1

I actually did request connecting rooms to my ILs (so they can babysit on our night out but be comfy in their own room), and it took some doing. They gave me a number to "tie" the reservations together. I gave this number to my ILs and SIL/BIL so they could all tie our reservations together.

I don't think she would be able to do this without a tie in number, although a PP said she would just need your name and address, so maybe it is possible?

In a case like this, I would call Disney and make sure you have a DO NOT CONNECT on your room.

However, if your MIL gets a great room discount, it would apply to all reservations tied to her reservation, and if that happens, take tie in, save the money and feign door trouble, LOL.

Sorry, I don't believe this information is correct. If your MIL gets a great room discount it only applies to the reservations that she has made. It wouldn't apply to reservations made by someone else, even if they are linked.

:rotfl2: Too funny...

:rotfl: Just goes to show you, not everything you read on the DIS is true.

I read that tidbit in another thread, thought it was true. Now I know. Thanks!!

I would appreciate my adult children telling me that their comfort level is with me in another building, on another floor, in a different resort, etc.

I don't understand how & why anyone would book a vacation on top of their children unless they were invited to do so.

I wonder if it is possible for you & Mom to talk. It sounds like she has needs that do not meet yours. She has obviously not explained her intentions to you, and she needs to do this.

Why have a miserable vacation? Talk it out now. :goodvibes

Good luck to you.

She may or may not have needs that may or may not be currently met. However, having a major 'heart to heart, all cards on the table' talk just before a big and very expensive vacation may not be the best timing in the world. Especially if things go south. Perhaps recognizing that there may be an issue with Mom, and dealing with it after you get back (and definitely before the next vacation) might be the more prudent route.
