With the taking of Bagdad and the near end of the war, I feel that I must congratulate the USA for finishing that war with so small a loss of lifes on both sides and so little collateral damage.
I still believe that there also may have been a way to solve the crisis without military force, but in the end only results count.

Let's all hope, that the Iraqi people can handle their newly won freedom and find their way to peace and democracy and that this will lead to a stabilization of the whole region.

The war is not over yet -- not by a long shot. There is still strong resistance in Baghdad and other cities in Iraq. I am afraid that we should keep the corks in the champagne for now. Granted, this is a major victory, but it's just another battle in the war.

I believe that Chamberlain said the same thing about Hitler in WWII.

I think he said it BEFORE WWII.

I agree. There may have been another way. I'm not sure there was time to explore all the diplomatic avenues available. I may be naive, but I really think that Bush/Blair thought the threat was such that it was time to move.

I don't think the war is quite over, but I think everyone can agree with this sentiment! :)

And I must also admit, that I admire Blair for his guts to stand up against the public opinion in the UK. They used to call Thatcher the "Iron Lady", but he must be called the "Stainless Steel Gentleman" now ;)

Viking, thank you for your post and for reaching out. I might not agree with your government and you might not agree with mine, but I think it's possible to "agree to disagree" and still be friends. :)

Well said.

Viking,

I really appreciate your comments. That took a lot of guts to post. You have my respect.

There may have been the chance that non-military means could have solved the WMD issue, but nothing short of force would have dislodged the regime and allowed the Iraqis to dance in their streets.

I agree it's not totally over, so let's keep our eyes on the ball.

I second what Geoff_M said.

And I third it!!! Viking, your post shows a whole lot of class! While I do think we have hard work still to be done, our military can and should be commended for the job they've done so far....so I appreciate you saying so!

See, this is why I can't bring myself to fight with you on the Debate Board, even though I disagree with half of what you say. You have a certain charm.

There may have been another way, years ago, but would it have resulted in freedom as well as disarmament?

Who me (or Viking)?

In response to your second statement, I doubt there would be both.

I agree with more than half of what you say on this issue, so that would be Viking. :D
