Hello
I have tried to search this question and just want to make sure I understand as I am still learning. So here goes the story:

Was going to purchase points through Disney but found same use year and # of points we wanted through re-sale But they have some of the points in holding. Can save some money if go re-sale but need to understand holding acct.

My understanding is they can used at DVC, but can not get ressie until 60 days before stay. So we will either need to be flexable on where we stay and stay longer, or sell points as "distressed"? That is the 2 options that I see.

Can anyone please tell me if I am on the right track. Or are there other options?

Thank you
Sandy

That's about right. One thing MS mentioned to me (I have some holding points as well) is that once you are within 60 days of a scheduled trip (e.g. using bankable points), you can call and ask to have them "reallocate" your points. This would effectively swap out bankable points with holding points without messing up your reservation. I haven't tried yet (although I will be doing this soon). This should work as long as you are within your banking window.

MS will only "reallocate" in this situation if there is still availability (or no waitlist) for the same type of unit and dates. The CM is effectively cancelling the original reservation and rebooking it with the holding points. To do otherwise would not be fair to those on the waitlist.

Holding points may also be used to book something from one of the collections - for example, a non-DVC WDW resort, or one of the resorts in the Conceirge Collection. To do this, you must be farther than 60 days from the end of your use year, but 60 days or less from your desired arrival date.

You can also make a late deposit for an exchange from the World Passport Collection, but I do not completely understand the rules around that. If that appeals to you, give MS a call.

Best wishes -

Thank you for your replies, I really like the idea of "reallocating". I bet I could do that on our weekend stay nights. I see that I have a lot to learn. I have to wait anyway for it to go through Disney, and have the points to worry with, but I wanted to make sure that I understood it before I have to face the challenge.
