OK. I'm a little dense, but I'm working on it....

How does the "use year" you buy relate to the 11-m onth window. If, forinstance, I want to go in March of '02, but don't get my '01 points until December, does that mean I only have 3-plus months to make the reservations?

Your use year really doesn't relate at all to the eleven month reservation window.

Your use year is very important, however, when banking and borrowing points

Use year is merely when your points are renewed each year.

When making a reservation, as long as you will have the points available for the dates you want, the use year doesn't matter. Banking rules use the use year to determine what the deadlines are for banking points.

You can make that March reservation the prior April, as long as the points will be there by March. Enjoy!

The "use year" is simply the date when a new set of points are available for you to use. Let's say you buy 200 points and your use year is December. Each December 1st you get 200 points which can be used from Dec 1st of that year until November 30th of the next year.

So on December 1, 2001 you get 200 points that can be used between December 1, 2001 and November 30, 2002.

You can make a reservation for a vacation that will take place during a given use year with points from that same use year before that use year actually begins.

So lets say you want to take a vacation in March 2002. This vacation takes place in your December 2001 use year and uses points that become available for your use on Dec 1, 2001.

If you will be staying at your home resort (where you purchase), then you can make the reservation 11 months before the vacation begins. (your 11 month window). So you could reserve the room in April 2001.

If you will be staying at a different DVC resort than the one you own, then you can make the reservation 7 months before the vacation begins. (your 7 month window). So you could reserve the room in Aug 2001.

I hope this helps clear things up a bit.

Keep asking questions. It can all be very confusing at first :D :D :D

Great user name, by the way. Even better if it's real.

If I have no points in May 2001 with a use year of Dec with 200 points and make a ressie for April 2002 for 300 points, can I also borrow points from Dec 2002 use year when I'm calling in my ressie in May 2001? IN other words is borrowing points important on the day you call or the day you stay?

Richnj...

On Dec 2001 you will get a fresh 200 points

You can make a ressie now for April 2002 as long as it is at your home resort (you are in the 11 month window).

Since you need 300 points, they will use all of your 200 points from Dec 2001 and borrow 100 points from Dec 2002.

This will leave you with a Ressie in April 2002, no points in your dec 2001 use year, and 100 points in your dec 2002 use year.

hope this helps...
