Just curious,
Does the message that Pete posted mean that this board will go black on 7/1/02 and that all renting of points must be done on the new DISauction site? Meaning we all get to bid against each other and jack up the price of renting points? Or am I missing something? Don't want to gripe or praise until I have all the facts.
If anyone knows, please share the info.
Thanks.

I don't understand this either. Is there more information on the DIS auctions somewhere?

Yes, I'm definitely confused. Sounds like we will be able to auction ANYTHING, just like ebay, but have to pay for it.

I guess I'm not too thrilled about having to pay a fee to sell my points (or to find some points, too.) But, with anything, it costs money to run things. :(

Just a comment - if this board is removed in lieu of some type of auction and folks don't like it; there is nothing to stop someone from starting a Yahoogroup for the purpose of renting and trading points. The DIS folks might want to take this under consideration before they alienate a number of their members.

Wolfpack,
I agree. I am curious as to what the final outcome will be. I was just getting ready to become a sponsor of the boards, but I will wait and see what pans out first. I was mainly curious as to if anyone else was aware of the upcoming change and exactly how it would affect us. Example, you list points for rent, somebody low balls you at $3.00 a point, are you stuck renting them?? We just need more details.

While I don't know the answer to everyone's questions, I can answer this question.

As with Ebay, you can set a minimum offer for your item for sale. I don't know all of the features of the auction yet, but that will all be explained soon.

Pete has responded in the thread on the DVC Board.

It does come down to economics. I'm sorry that so many found the concept so difficult to grasp and yet chose to berate something they knew little about.

The announcement was made nine days ago on this Board. It's too bad no one has contacted Pete about this until now.

If someone wants to be the exclusive sponsor for the Rent/Trade Board, I'm sure Pete would welcome any input as to how to run this Board. Any takers???

Even though Pete may have posted the report 9 days ago, I only just learned about it so that is why I am now voicing my opinion. On one hand you seem to suggest that people should wait until more of the details are available before commenting on the change and on the other hand, you say that is a shame that we did not voice our opinions when the change was first announced. To then suggest that only exclusive site sponsors should have the right to complain is downright absurd. It is alright to blast any Disney change but we cannot comment on a site format change? If this move to Disauction is required due to the high costs of running the Board, then no one expects Pete to lose money. However, if this is turning into an ebay type situation, then it would appear that money is being made off the people who patronize the site. If there is more information on the format change, please let me know where I can read about it. Rich

As Pete said in the other thread, there will be no change.

That thread also served as a reminder for all those, like me, who had been intending to become a site sponser for some time to finally do it.

I think that there may be some use for an auction board. Not to completely replace the rent-trade board, but to maybe accompany it. It may not have to be limited to points. I don't have any idea of the logistics to running such a thing, but it may actually be useful.

I never said anything about "only" site sponsors could complain. I was suggesting that if someone wishes to pay for the costs of that Board as THE exclusive sponsor, I'm sure Pete would be happy to have input from them about the format for the Board. Otherwise, Board policy decisions are not open to public discussion.

The Rent/trade Board is a deviation from what is normally NOT allowed on this site- the sale of something. To suggest that it would be improper for the site to receive some monetary return from those who ARE reaping the benefit of that fact is certainly a strange concept to me.

I'm with Rich here on this one. If you haven't seen Pete's response to all of this go to the much larger thread on just this subject. Basically it comes down to economics. Nobody has stepped forward to become the EXCLUSIVE sponsor of the board. Boards are expensive to keep and to run, and both the sellers and buyers on the rent/trade board are profiting from the board itself. Pete has said that he will keep the format as is, but he pointed out that none of the people complaining had even become site sponsors. With that, I say, if the board is THAT important to you, put your money where your mouth is & sign up to help sponsor this site. IMHO this is the very best DVC site on the net... As such, I'm willing to pony up some $$$ to keep this as well as the rent/trade board available in the current format.

I think DVC'ers especially should be more than happy to help Pete out after all that he's done for us.
