Confused with Math? TiW and AP for me?

Hello all!

Rarely post a thread but really need some help here....

My family and I (myself, wife, DD 6, DS 6) are heading to the world next June/July for our 4th time.

We never do the Dining Plan (we eat in the room for BK and some lunches) and really, thats not the point of the thread so.....

We never get AP's since we always travel in May

Now, since this year we are going in June, I was wondering if we should get AP's based on the following:

-Our following years trip will be within a year
-It would allow us to purchase a TiW card

Some background:

-We dont need Park Hoppers
-We do need Water Parks
-We always rent points from DVC members, but are not members ourselves
-We will visit 4 Theme Parks and 2 Water Parks and DTD per trip
-We plan on dining at the following:

Chef Mickeys
Narrccossees
Tonys
Victoria and Alberts (NOT chef table)
1900 Park Fare
Ohanas
Fultons Crab House
Cali Grill

So.....instead of a 7 day base ticket should I upgrade to AP's (what would that cost be?)

And should I add TiW (what would I approximately save on our next trip based on the restaurants above?)

I would work it all out.

Cost of this June's tickets and next May's tickets. Including water park and more, and then without, and also looking at the cost of a waterpark AP. Obviously, look at the price without hoppers, as you don't use that and wouldn't buy it.

Look at the cost of the normal AP and then the fancy AP that includes waterparks.

Make sure to look up the TIW program and the restaurants it includes, to see if yours are included.

Figure it all out and see what would work best. What if the tickets/APs are a wash, but if ONE person upgraded to an AP and got the TIW...would it be worth it then? etc etc.

Remember that while the TIW gets you a 20% discount on food including alcohol, it also assumes you'll be tipping 18% and adds that in automatically.

If you didn't include the waterpark need, it might be easier, but since you'll need either two admissions or the waterparks AP, the cost gets a little more confusing.

To look at the costs of tickets and APs, just go to disneyworld.com to the ticket section. Be SURE to look in your cart after you add things, because it is there that they add the tax. You want to make sure you are figuring it out with tax!!!

To go from an 7 day to an AP is figured by just subtracting the 7 day's cost from the AP's cost.

It depends. Usually any amount of time over 10 days in a year period the AP is more cost effective. If you were DVC members and could take advantage of the DVC discounts it would be a no-brainer. As for TIW, it has been more cost effective for us. It depends on your dining habits and how much you want to be tied to reservations. Actually doing the math, I have to say NO, APs are not your best deal, since you are NOT a DVC Member.

APs with water Parks included will cost you 669.89 plus tax for an adult and 603.86 plus tax for a child ticket.

A 7 Day with Water Parks Ticket is only 302.95 for Adults and 278.95 for a child.

Per my quick calcs, getting at least one adult AP and the TIW will save you money based upon your trip assumptions. Here's my reasoning/assumptions:

Cost of Premium AP's for 2 adults and 2 children would be $2547.50.
(Per WDW website, $669.89 per adult and $603.86 per child - including tax).

Cost of 4 adult MYW w/WPF&M + 4 child MYW w/WPF&M would be $2466.56.
(Per WDW website, $320.57 per adult and $296.07 per child - including tax. I assumed you would need 7-day non-hopper tickets for each trip.)
---> difference between AP's & MYW ticket scenarios = $80.94.

Cost of one adult having Premium AP & rest of family w/ MYW w/WPF&M would be $2495.31.
(Cost of 1 adult Premium AP, 2 adult MYW w/WPF&M + 4 child MYW w/WPF&M.)
---> difference between 1 adult w/ AP scenario and the whole family MYW scenario is $28.75.

The cost of a TIW membership is $75 (assuming you are not a FL resident). So, if you plan on spending at least $519 over the two trips on TIW-discounted dining (which I'm sure you will based on the restaurants listed), getting the one adult AP makes the most financial sense.(The $519 is calculated by the cost of the TIW ($75), the cost difference between scenarios ($28.75) and back-calculating how much you would have to spend on dining to enable the 20% savings to pay for the additional ticket cost. --> (75+28.75)/0.2 = $518.76

Even the cost difference for getting AP's for the whole family could be covered if you spend more than $780 on TIW-discounted dining over the two trips (again, I think this is highly likely ) -- just depends if you want some additional freedom that the AP's provide (e.g. park-hopping).

However since they indicated they were taking a second trip within a year, and assuming it is also for 7 days, then the PAP has more bang for the buck.

This still makes the PAP more cost effective since it provides admission to all four worlds, waterparks, DisneyQuest, etc. Of course this assumes multiple visits exceeding 10 days within a year.
