Confused with DCL Pricing

We booked our fourth DCL Cruise for January 2018, Eastern Caribbean departing from Port Canaveral on the Fantasy. This past weekend, we decided to change itineraries to Souther Caribbean, departing from San
Juan, for the same time frame on the Wonder.

It will be myself, my wife, and our 17 year old son. Here is where I am confused. For my wife and I, "adult," the fare is about $40 more. Our son other hand, "Child," is $280 less.

Why did the adult fares increase and our son's fare decrease so dramatically. His fare decreased 34% while ours increased. Just seems counterintuitive to me.

Probably has to do with how many of each type of cruiser is expected to book any given cruise what the cost is that DCL attaches to each of them.

Don't know, but I'm guessing that since it's a "school's-in-sesson" trip, this particular cruise has a ton of adults on it, and they want to encourage more kids in order to ease up on crowding/demands in the adult areas/portions of the cruise. But that's just a guess. It sounds like you saved some money, so :).

That Southern Caribbean Wonder cruise looks like such an awesome deal. Not too pricey & unique itinerary. I'd book it in a heartbeat if I weren't a teacher. Enjoy!

Thank you @PrincessShmoo and @Shanti for your replies. It just did not compute in my brain why thee was a difference. Either way, the lower cruis price netted against the increase in airfare is a zero sum game. Looking forward to a day in San Juan before the the cruise.
