Confused: Renting Points

Keep in mind, this is new to me. So, excuse the questions.

How do you benenfit if you are always renting points from others? How do you come out ahead that way?

As a member or a non member?

As a non member you benefit by getting deluxe accomodations at a discounted rate. You come out ahead by saving on your accomodations.

Bear in mind I'm just now exploring DVC so I may be completely wrong...

...but as a member, renting points would be a cost-effective way to bump up your room to say a Grand Villa for an extended family vacation, when your normal points would not be enough.
