This year will be our first trip home. We are from Oklahoma and only plan to come once a year. Would it be more cost efficient to buy the AP and come a week earlier next year or buy 14 day park hopper plus with no expiration? Also, does anyone know current cost for the AP for members? Adult and Child.

Thanks

The adult AP is 315 + tax. Can't remember the child one right now.

The adult AP with the DVC discount is the same as an 8 day hopper - I think with no expiration but I can't remember. I priced it out when all the new ticket prices came out and all I remember is 8 day hopper.

So you would spend less on the AP then the 14 day ticket. I think you can only buy up to a 10 day, but I could be wrong.

So I guess what I am saying is that it would be best to buy the AP and come a week earlier next year.

we use the AP and always do 3 trips. like this May 4/12-06 then Oct 12/20-06 then 1 week earlier in April/May of 2007 to get more use out of the AP

This might not mean much from one of the "new guys"...but we are planning on buying the AP and taking at least two trips "home" within that year...even if one of them turns out to be kinda liast minute. Less money that is needed to be worried about while planning the second trip...

If you are only going once a year, get the 10 day. With a 10 day you get 10 days in the parks plus 6 water park and fun days + no expiration. That's 16 days of fun. Our family does not go to the parks every day so a 10 day ticket will last us 3-4 trips. The cost is $421.75 or $408.97 from Disney if you order ahead. That 's about $25.55 a day at the parks and it cost you nothing to pool hop, go off site (we never do), site see around the world. An annual pass the first time is $441.98. If you go twice in one year for 8 days your cost per day is $27.63. Not much of a difference except an AP is only good for your two trips where the day ticket is good for 3-4 trips; for us atleast. (All prices are 2006 prices from mousesavers.com)

I guess it all depends on how you plan to spend your days. If you go to the parks everyday, then the AP is better. If you only spend a couple and like the water parks 10 is better. If you are also looking to save money down the road, the 10 day is a better deal.

Again, we only spend 2 days at the parks (sometimes 3) and go to a water park or two each visit. We go to WDW to relax and enjoy freedom not to go comando every day. We don't see the benefit of being able to walk into EPCOT to have dinner after spending the day at the pool. We maximize our ticket money by doing it this way.

We buy the APs and skew the trips by a bit (been doing this ever since we became members), but for our adult kids who occational join us, we buy the 10 day MYW tickets and only add the hopper feature.

The Ap is a great deal with the dvc discount. We used ours and went 2 times in less than one year(last day on the ap was the very last day before expiring) and used it for 22 days. If you adjust your trips accordingly, you can get alot of use out of the AP.
goodluck,
Roger
