Confused on AP strategy - help?

Ok - we do not have an AP, but am thinking it might help us save money on our trip - 5 nights in Jan. 09.

If I buy only an AP for myself, I can then use the AP to get a room discount right? Then I could buy regular MYW tix for my kids ages 13 & 9.

However, we could not add the dinning plan unless we also buy 1 nights worth of park tickets. Does this mean the 5 night base tix I would buy for my kids would count, then I only add 1 extra night ticket for myself. What about the Disney policy that everyone in the room has to have the same plan - how would this apply to the tickets? Just when I thought I was becoming a Disney expert, I can't seem to figure this out.

if you have an AP you can get the dining plan without having to buy any additional tickets. Everyone on the res gets the DDP and everyone can purchase whatever tickets they want and you dont need any tickets aside from your AP

I just calle CRo, if I use a code I can add dining along with the passholders rates (I have the code) but it is not available on my dates. I was told I couldnt add the dining without the code???

Call back and talk to one thats not an idiot. Even if the AP discounted room is not available for your dates you can still book a room at rack rate with the DDP without having to buy tickets.

I'm sure this is posted somewhere, but since I'm on this thread I'll ask away:

What is the discount for an AP holder for rooms? I'm trying to decide if buying one is worth the discount for the room or not. Thanks!

It all depends....I'm booked for Jan 26-Feb 1.....it brought my Contemporary MK View room down from $430...to $334. If you give me your days and hotel I can check for you if you want on the AP website.
