Confused myself again on UY/Banking

Hi all,

I'm going to apoligize in advance, but I've managed to confuse myself yet again. We have an August UY, so our points run like this right?

8/07-7/08 150 pts
8/08-07/09 150 pts

I banked all the 2007 points and used them all and some of our 08 points for our first DVC trip this Sept/Oct. I now have 99 08 points left. Now here's my confusion. I'm thinking about adding on a couple of nights in case DH can get the extra time off. If I add them now since we are still within our home resort window (11-8 months) but need to cancel in August (more than 31 days out) if he cannot get the time, could those 99 points still be banked for 09?

I think the answer is yes, but I've thought about it so many different ways, I'm now confused.

With an August use year, you have until the following March to bank your points.

So if you use 2008 use year points to add the days (which you say you will) for your Sept/Oct 2008 vacation (which falls within the 2008 use year), as long as you cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival, the points are returned to your account with the same status they had before you canceled.

So assuming you don't cancel a day that you used the banked 2007 points to reserve, YES, you will still be able to bank the points from the canceled days.


How that for a confusing answer, LOL?

Really, go ahead and add the days now - you'll be fine if you have to cancel them later (but more than 31 days prior to the start of your vacation).

If I read your post correctly, yes. If you cancel a reservation using Aug 08 use year points prior to 31 days before scheduled arrival, you can bank them. The Aug 08 banking deadline is March 31, 2009.

Thanks Carol and Chuck - guess I had the right answer all along. If I start thinking about all this too long or too hard, I always manage to confuse myself, so thank you for pointing me in the correct direction!
