:Pinkbounc Help me please! I am really confused!! We are going to be in the Orlando area for 8 nights. We are going to be staying at Universal for 4 nights and we want to spend another 4 nights in Disney (area). Does it really make a difference to stay on or off site? If you perfer on site does it make a difference of value or moderate? Which resort do you perfer? Do you think we really need a car in the disney area? If we stay on Disney property should we buy the meal plan? I am from the NYC area and use to convience so what do you recommend? As you can tell the more posts I read the more and more I am getting confused! :sad2: :sad2: Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also I am confused by the tickets- for a 4 night stay should I get a three day ticket? which one

In our experience, yes it does make a big difference staying on-site vs. offsite. The convenience and services offered by an on-site Disney resort IMO are all worth it. I have stayed offsite w/ my parents, and we drove to the parks. I suppose if it is a better deal and you get a place where there is a full kitchen, it is a good idea as this is what they did. DH and I have stayed offsite once at a hotel close by and we really did not enjoy it. Although they had a shuttle it was not always convenient and not on time. We just didn't feel like the magic was there, but then again not everyone needs the magic as long as they can go and enjoy the parks. Our last stays we have stayed at the Contemporary and Coronado Springs, and since then DH says we will never stay offsite again. We love the service, the atmosphere, and being just a busride/monorail ride away from the parks. Especially if you have little ones, it is so worth it to stay onsite.

As for the park tickets, keep in mind that there are 4 parks. We had a 3 day ticket and wanted to do all 4 parks, so we had to split one day between 2 parks. This worked well for us b/c we'd been there already and just did the main things we wanted to do at each park. But if you really want to take your time and enjoy the parks then 4 days would be best, one park each day. Do keep in mind that the parks are huge and you will be doing lots of walking, so you might want to fit in one day of rest. We did this, and let me tell you it is a great idea.

As for the meal plan, we have not tried this yet so I will leave other experts to comment on that. I hope you have a wonderful time! :flower:

When my boys were younger and I flew to Disney with them, we would just take Mears transportation to the Disney Resort and stay on property the whole time. Very convenient riding the bus to the parks and grabbing a bite to eat. Lots of Disney Magic everywhere. If I were only doing Disney I would definitely to it this way. Not worry about a car. However, we now usually drive down and stay at Universal a couple days.(You will love it, except the hotels do not have a food court really). Prices are high and we try to grab something from US to bring back to the room to eat. Just wanted to add that our favorite hotel there is Hard Rock. Anyway, while staying at US, we always drive to the outlet mall which is very close. Even if we stayed at Disney only which is quite a drive, we would still visit the outlets to get our souveniers. I would definitely get a car!! By the time you would pay for transfers from the airport to US and then US to Disney, and yet Disney to the airport, the car is paid for and you have freedom to do other things. Personally, we couldn't spend 4 days at US and IOA. In fact, we go in winter, so we do both parks in 1 day(been there before, etc).
As far as staying on site at Disney. My experience is that when we didn't stay on site, we just didn't feel that Disney feel. Once we moved on site, that magic appeared. Our favorite on site is AKL. Stayed there once (great price that time). Usually though only stay at value or moderate. Love POFQ and really enjoyed CSR. But CSR really wasn't about Disney, just liked the quiet atmosphere that year. When we stay at the values, you can feel and see Disney EVERYWHERE! There's more activity, noise, themes, music, kids, and a much better food court. We will be staying at All Star Movies this year and are really looking forward to it. As far as the car at Disney, if this is your first time, you will probably spend all those days at the parks. However, we usually use the car to go to Downtown Disney(more convenient), also to Gatorland, Animal Kingdom, Boogy Creek Airboats and Parasailing, etc. We use the car alot.
The dining would really be a personal choice. We did all the character meals when the kids were younger and felt the kids price was worth it. At Adult prices, feel the dining is too expensive. Now, we don't want to take the time to sit down, so we just grab a quick bite (maybe a mickey bar for lunch) and rush to the next attraction.
I didn't see if you had kids, or if this is your first time there. Maybe I would do things a little different my first time. We have been there so many times that we don't actually spend many days at the parks. Usually do at least two parks in one day, but we have seen everything at least once before and now only do the favorites.
I just gave a few of my opinions for you to think about, your trip is yours alone and you will have a great time personalizing it to what you want. If you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Even if you cannot afford it, I recommend you stay on-site at Disney. You can't get sprinkled with pixie dust off-site.

And you can always sort out the money problems when you get home.

Some considerations...first,
1. When are you going?
2. Who is going in your party? Any young ones?
3. Is this your first trip to Disney?

Okay, my answer may change when I get the answers above but I'll go on as if this is your first trip to Disney.

If you're a commando type park person (having spent 4 days at Universal will prepare you for all the walking and planning) I would book 4 nights on-site at Disney..if there are 4 or less in your party then I would book a moderate. If you have 5 in your party then I would go deluxe....the beds in a moderate are not queen size...more of a full size bed..in a deluxe they're a full queen size, and several deluxe have daybeds for the fifth person. If you're okay with bed size and not planning on being in the room that often then a value would be fine...just don't go expecting too much...and it being your first trip it may be a good idea to do value because they are still charming and fun. Transportation at Disney is great...you don't need a car. If you have 3 full days at Disney then I would by a 3 day park hopper...you can do MK on one day, Epcot on one day and easily split MGM/AK on one day. With the park hopper you can go back to your hotel and swim then go to another park to watch illuminations or fireworks at MK...both a not miss...very cool. On your fourth day I would use the time to go to Downtown Disney or eat at a restaurant at one of the resorts (Chef Mickey's at CR, 'Ohana's at Polynesian, Beaches & Cream at Beach Club, or Boma's at AK) they're all fun and put you in that Disney spirit...plus you can get an upfront view of another resort so you can plan your next visit! :)

We are going August 19th - August 23rd to Disney and Universal August 23 - August 28. It will be my husband, myself and two boys ages 6 and 12. I really appreciate all the honest answers that people are replying to my questions. This is my childrens and mine first time to DisneyWorld :guilty: ( i have been to Disney Land). My husband was in Disney in the 80's. Anymore suggestions are greatly appreciated . :wave2:

I am going to chime in on staying onsite as well. We definitely recommend it. I think it is like when you stay offsite you are just a visitor. When you stay onsite you live there. Nothing beats the convenience and feeling like you are right there in the middle of the magic! ::MickeyMo

Based on the info given:

I'd stay on Disney property, get a 3 day park ticket (park hopper?) and spend your last day enjoying your resort pool/amenities before you move over to Universal. You are going to need an R&R day in the middle is you are planning to spend so much time touring the parks.

I would get the dining package for 3 days of your Disney stay if you choose 3 days of park passes.

I would suggest definately staying on property. We were off property on our last trip and it was just kind of a downer at the end of each day leaving it all to go to an okay hotel. This time we're staying at Port Orleans Riverside and I can't hardly stand it with the anticipation of getting there! All of the pictures I have seen are just fantastic. I definately did not get this excited about where we stayed last time - it was just a hotel.
