We received a notice stating that DVC doesn't share members' personal financal info.... The thing is, we aren't DVC owners. I toured a couple of years ago but couldn't convince DH :( . We never shared any financial info with DVC. So why would DVC be assuring me that they will protect my privacy?

Since you took the tour, you are entered in the DVC computer and therefore DVC is required to inform you of their privacy rights statement.

These letters were sent out by a third party, hired by Disney, to everyone in the DVC files, whether a member or not, as everyone is covered by the federal requirement.

(Either that, or DVC thinks you are a member and you have actually lost out on years of benefits!!) ;)

Doc - you burst my bubble :( I was imagining that DH was holding out on me and had purchased it as a surprise for me. As if!!! DH is a wonderful husband & father but he makes Scrooge look like Santa Claus!

Kinda ironic isn't it - sharing information with a third party to explain their rules on sharing information with a third party....

I too recieved one of these and I have never taken the tour or anything else that would connect me to them. I thought it very strange.

Maybe one of us sent your name in hoping to get a referal fee. ;)

You should be receiving such letters from just about every company that may have personal information about you, as there was a federal privacy law passed recently that made such a disclosure necessary.

I did think the DVC notice was very clear about how to send in the info if you wanted to "opt out". More so than other notices I've been receiving.

The notices I've been receiving from banks and credit card companies have not been that clear. For the most part I've been tossing them. It's now on the news that if you do not take the time to fill out a form or write a letter and send it back to the company, they will be allowed to share this information as they see fit. I believe the deadline is July 9.

Bicker is right. I've received a lot of Privacy Statements and Opt Out letters because of the recent laws passed. And they're still coming... and coming.... and coming...
