Hi Everyone!

My DD will have the special treat of Dolphins in Depth at Epcot so I was looking for an activity for my DDS, who will be ages 15 & 16 when we are at WDW.

Can they operate the Water Mice by themselves or will they have to have someone over 18 riding with them?

TIA! :boat: :boat:

Last Jan I took my boys to Disney for their 16th birthday. Here is the scoop on the mice. At the largest water area, via Poly WL, and Contemp, they now have faster boats, and they require a license driver to be in the boat. But it's my understanding the smaller water mice were relocated to other water areas, perhaps near Epcot, DD, etc. Those you only have to be 14 for. Last thing we didn on their Bday was to go to WL to drive these boats, even though they had learners permit they weren't allowed. So you have to be a licensed driver. We didn't have time to try an alternative location.

Yes you have to be 16 with a valid driver's license. My son, who loves the water mice, turned 16 during our last vacation and was not allowed to drive the mice alone. He now has his license and is looking forward to our next trip. There have been many accidents with the water mice and I am one parent who is very happy they did this. I understand that it is a bummer for kids, but as a parent I am happy that Disney is concerned for all of our safety.

Have a Waonderful Vacation!!

Thanks for your replies!

I was wondering about the safety issue as well. I get worried watching my boys and their friends zip around on their bikes...the picture in my head of them zipping around in little boats was a tad alarming! :earseek: LOL

I guess the best "get-to-ditch-my parents-for-a-bit" activity for them will probably be DisneyQuest.

This question has been asked and answered many times, but what the heck :earsboy: --here goes...

Someone 18 has to rent the Sea Raycers (pay for them, sign for them, etc.). 12 yr old can drive them. If you rent them from a MK area resort including CR, WL, FW, GF, Poly, you must have a licensed driver in the boat. If you rent from any other marina(DTD, etc), a 12 yr old can drive by him/herself. ALL of the marinas have Sea Raycers by Sea Ray Boats. There are no water mice, water sprites left anywhere.

Thanks for the info, Cap'n Bill!

I did do a search on the board, but was coming up with conflicting info. Your clarification is much appreciated. :)

We are going to be doing the same thing (renting Sea Rayer's) for my 16 yo DS who is on his permit. He's ok with one of us (even his sister as she is 21 and a licensed driver) being on it with him as long as he can drive! We're looking forward to it - should be fun!

Our experience was April 05 - we went to the marina at the Beach Club and I had to show my license to rent, but both sons were driving their own SeaRaycer - age 15 and 12. They didn't have any problems driving them, and it was definitely a highlight of the trip. :)

Does anyone have a picture of the Sea Raycer they could post? Or perhaps someone knows of where to find a picture of the Sea Raycers atWDW?
