Confused about turning room only booking into a package?

Hello,
I have read a couple threads on here about turning a room only resort reservation (specifically one with discounted room prices) into a pacakge (tix and dininig plan) with success.

If I have a room only reservation booked with a AAA discount, can I change that into a package and still keep the discounted room prices? I inquired about that with a cm yesterday, and he said that if I switched from a room only reservation with AAA discount that I would forfeit my discount and pay the going rate for the package.

I know that I can always buy tix separately but we really want to add the dining plan so the pacakge seems like what we need. Can anyone clarify for me??

Thanks!

IT depends. You are really going to cancle the room only reservation. Than they will re-book with what ever discount you want. I did AKL 40% off room added a one day ticket and adding the QSDP. But with doing this your room category or even resort may not have any rooms left with the discount.

I just did this last night if you book threw disney the book the new package before the cancle the old one. To make sure you get everything you want.

Did you originally book with Disney or with AAA?

Packages utilizing a AAA discount (and/or wanting to receive aaa benefits) can only be booked through AAA.

Room only reservations utilizing a AAA discount can be booked through Disney or AAA.

If you booked through AAA, you must make changes through AAA. When a travel agent books your reservation, they "own" the reservation. You can not access it through Disney yourself.

Package and Room Only reservations have different sets of rules including deposits, PIF dates, cancellation/changes.

So if you are simply wanting to use the AAA discount and have a AAA package, you will have to contact AAA. If you originally booked through Disney, there is a way to sign your reservation over to AAA. However like the previous poster said, what actually happens is the room only is cancelled and the package is booked, it is not modified. So It may be easier for you to cancel the room only yourself - but do not do that until you have a confirmed reservation for your package.

Check out the discounts that are available though. You will likely find a better deal than the AAA discount. Not always though. If you book with AAA or with Disney, you can change to new discounts at anytime assuming there is availability.

And yes you do have to have a package (room and tickets) to get dining.

When are you going? Also, where are you staying & how many in your party? There are alot of deals out there through Oct 2 right now. I never book through AAA. I always call WDW & do it myself... I need to be in control of my vacation!!! :goodvibes

If you have a room only AAA rate, you can call your TA and ask them to add tix and dining. You will not lose your AAA rate unless you are trying to get a different special like free dining or 40% off room rates, etc. You can only have one discount at a time, but you can always add tix & dining to it. (One day base tix are required to add dining, and dining must equal # of nights stay)

If you booked the AAA rate yourself with WDW then you should be able to cancel that reservation and re-book whatever package you want, assuming that where you want to stay has enough rooms available on the package you want to get.

This is all very good info. I have a package booked through Disney with no  discount of any kind - can I call Disney and ask them if I can apply a AAA discount to the room, and then add the tickets and dining? They would have to re-book the whole thing, I assume. Does that sound right?

That makes sense to me because you can not apply any discounts to a specific package and since the AAA discount can be made through WDW reservations that's another form of a room only reservation, because you need to cancel a package deal before switching to that.

No you can not do that. A package is a package; a room only is a room only. If you want dining you must have a package. A package with a AAA discount has to be booked through aaa.

I did the exact same thing.......then they charge you the $200. deposit and refund your room only deposit....I got my refund in about 4 business days.
