Confused about a flight schedule

I usually check the flights I am going to be on for a couple of weeks before I leave, just to see what kind of pattern it is following, i.e. on time, cancelled, etc.

Well, I just checked our flight from Newark to Orlando for yesterday (Delta Express Flight 2465 at 7 AM on 5/21). It said "Flight Information Unavailable". Then underneath it said that the flight departed Newark at 7:02 AM and landed at JFK in NYC at 8 AM, with the scheduled time of arrival in JFK at 8:55. Then, it showed underneath that a flight scheduled from JFK to MCO at 9:30 am, which didn't take off until 1:45 PM, arriving in Orlando at 4:20 PM, supposed to land around noon.

Can anyone explain this? First of all, why did it land at JFK? Could it have been because of the weather? Also, why was it scheduled to land in JFK 2 hrs after takeoff from Newark? You could drive between the 2 airports in about 1/2 hr! I just don't want to hear anything about "technical difficulties"!

Is there anyway I can find out what happened? I'm usually not the nervous flier (my BF is) but stuff like this makes me wonder!?!

it was probably due to a schdule change. when did you book your flight? its possible that the flt nbr you used is either not into effect until your flt date and is used for another city pair or the flt nbr you used was one that got switched during a schdule change which means you now have to call DL and check your ressie to see if you were part of a change and get your correct flt info. (I hope you understood this) it could also have been due to weather or flight interruption etc. call the carrier and give them the flt nbr and ask.

Delta's website shows that the flight was diverted to JFK. It is likely that there was either a mechanical problem or someone on board became ill, requiring immediate landing.

If I read your original post correctly the flight took off from Newark and landed in JFK and then left four hours later for Orlando. I would guess mechinal difficulties. (A sick passanger does NOT take 4 hours!) However, don't panic. Keep in mind that it did land. This happens a lot. The rules are designed to protect you so if they notice something wrong they land ASAP, unlike if you are driving and you keep going to see if it works itself out!

If your BF is nevous, I personally would skip this whole story with him. Since the chances of it happening to you are pretty slim why make him worry!
