Confuse about getting to fort wilderness by bus

Hello i'm a little confuse on how the buses at fort wilderness operates. I heard that there're three internal buses routes within the resort and that I would need to switch to another bus once I within the resort.

I'm trying to get from hollywood studios to settlement depot area at fort wilderness under 1 hour by bus anyone know if I need to switch buses and ifso which bus do I take?

Is it quicker driving from hollywood studios to ft wilderness?

I assume you are going to the HDDR. From HS take the FW or WL bus, whichever comes first(sometimes it is a shared route anyway). If you are on the WL bus or a shared route with WL as the first stop, get off at WL and wait at the bus stop for the FW bus, Settlement will be the first stop. If you are on the FW bus or FW is the first stop get off and board ANY internal bus(3colors, but they all make full loops) to Settlment. The trip should take less than an hour if all the connections are good.

Bad advice. That's all I'm going to say.

OK. I'll say a little more. One and a half hours is about what I would plan for in the most complex transfer situations. That generally would mean some kind of resort-to-resort trip, not a park-to-resort transfer.

you're telling a transportation cast member who deals with these "it took too long bla bla bla I missed my reservation bla bla bla" complaints from people all day long that it's bad advice to allow 1.5 hours to get anywhere using Disney transportation.

Yes. We are coming at this from a completely different perspective. You are looking to avoid an issue. I am looking to provide practical advice.

If you are telling people that any trip within WDW will take 1.5 hours, you are CYA, but you are not providing realistic advice. Most resort-to-park trips will take 30 minutes or less (from when a guest arrives at a bus stop). Most other trips will take less than an hour.

Can any trip take up to an hour and a half? Yes, if all the factors work against the guest.

Would 1.5 hours be a reasonable planning time frame for a trip to FW? From another resort, absolutely. From a park, no.

And what happens that ONE time everything goes against the guest? Especially with HDDR, they will only seat 15 min into the show, after that it's too bad do sad. Is it really such a bad thing to plan for the worst and be early?

All it takes is monorails going down plus ferries down due to winds to have buses deployed to MK thus causing a delay at other parks, plus an accident which happens all the time because ppl drive like idiots, and a person is at risk of being late for a show that doesn't allow late seatings. When you make a reservation the csr tells EVERYONE to allow 1.5 hours if using transportation. They do not change that recommendation based on circumstances.

OP, you asked if it would be better to drive? I say yes, that's the most direct way to handle the whole thing. It will be easier going home if you have your car.

All of these answers assume you are staying onsite at a Disney resort.

Here's your options:
1. Bus from DHS to Fort Wilderness (Outpost bus depot is at the front of the Fort where you enter). Then take ANY of the routes to the Settlement. They all end there, they just go through different routes with the Fort.
2. Bus from DHS to WL, then bus to FW Settlement (noted above).
3. Drive to Fort Wilderness, park in lot, walk over to Outpost bus depot then take any bus to Settlement.

After HDDR, your options are:
1. walk back to Settlement bus stop, then take a resort-specific bus back to your Disney resort. It may go to numerous resorts before you, so could take a little time.
2. walk back to Settlement bus stop, take internal bus to Outpost, then take DTD bus, then transfer to your resort bus. Could take a while!
3 - walk back to Settlement bus stop, internal bus to Outpost, hop in your car and drive back to your resort.

It seems complicated but it's really not. You'll be fine.

I do understand were you're coming about disney recommending 1.5 for travel and thats all well and good but not to helpful. I do travel to wdw yearly being a DVC member but I never been to fort wilderness. I was more of less trying to find out how long the buses normally takes to get here, "a realistic time" which everyone on this board answered

Thanks, yes I will be renting a car while I'm down there also, I was undecided if the bus would be faster a more direct route non stop but I see either way, driving or via bus I would still need to transfer to the resort bus at the the outpost area.

We have stayed at Fort Wilderness 6 times in the last 7 years. We have never had that big of a problem with the transportation BUT we take our trips in September (once we went in January) and the crowds are very low. I always plan for an hour but never has it taken that long - mainly 30-40 minutes tops. The bus system can be a bit frustrating at times but I must say, Disney is well organized with their transportation. 18 more days......and we will do it all over again!

just back from the Fort and rode buses only. even taking car to the Fort would mean a bus ride back to the stop and back to front. could use any campground bus. time on bus depends on how many loops the bus has to stop at on the way back. most times we did not have long waits but a couple of times we just missed our bus and had longer waits but you should not have that problem as you can take any color that goes to the other end, not stopping in center. i would allow the 1.5 hours to get from a park to the ressie.
