Confiscating Water Bottles

I've taken in open and unopened bottles of water and soda and never been questioned. Either the guard was very new and was taking her job too seriously (doubtful because I'm sure they would cover in training that non-alcoholic drinks in plastic bottles are allowed), joking and returned the water bottle when the OP wasn't looking, or the bottle had been opened and contained alcohol.

I think the op must have misunderstood the situation, there's no way security at any theme park is going to confiscate water in plastic bottles! And I would hope pippy 27 that Disney DID have the power to search. I for one would welcome seeing a guest escorted off property who had refused to show something in their pockets when asked! I'd sure feel safer....

There is probably more to the story that we know.

I have bought water at our resort food court and brought it with because I didn't want to waste time at park opening buying water. Never had a problem.

People are allowed to bring soft-sided coolers with picnics into the park. I doubt that water bottles would suddenly be banned.

Don't worry about it. :goodvibes

It was probably the same female security guard that tried to search my 14 year old son's pockets going into Epcot on Sunday evening. She said it looked like something was in his pocket, and she needed to see what it was. I told her, 'Yes it was his cell phone', and she said 'Well, I need to see it.' I told her as soon as WDW has a sign posted that people were subject to searches, then I would show it to her. She then started to yell at us really nastily, and I walked away after telling her that everyone coming in the park has stuff in their pockets, so as soon as they start searching everyone, then we will comply. Don't know what was up with that.

They did NOT try to search your child's pockets. They requested that you prove it was indeed a phone and not something else, such as a weapon.

WDW is private property. If they want to ask you to prove you do not have something that is not allowed on their property, they may. If you argue and refuse, they can refuse you entry. They can even ban you from their property.

If you don't like it, then don't go.

Not having any real idea of the total situation
I'll just throw out another possibility that-

A- The security screener was joking. (I've had that happen countless times, in one way or another.)

B- The screener then returned the bottle to the guest and off they went.

As usuall, Robo probably nailed it.

We've have comments made to us like "Looks good, if you need help with that, I'm off at...?" or "I would be happy to trade my lunch with you" followed by a smile and a "have a great day".

It HAD to be alcohol. Water is allowed.

Agreed, but how in the world would they know that if it was, say, Vodka in a Dasani bottle? I never had them look closely at my water bottles to see if they were opened or containing alcohol. Actually, since we clipped them to our belts, I don't recall them even noticing that we had them.

Odd because I always have bulging pockets and no one ever pays attention to me. We never have to go through the security lines though.

At the water parks only coolers are checked, and the checking is done by the Turnstile Greeters and not security. We are only looking for alcoholic beverages and items in glass containers. But sometime I will tell a Guest we are looking for chocolate cake (or some other similar item) for a party we plan to have that afternoon. And I will only make that comment after I have checked the cooler and am fairly certain there is none.

It was an unopened Dasani bottle. The security lady took it and said mmm I might enjoy this later, or something along those lines.

Maybe she gave it to her. I have done that before when we have extras. Having worked an outdoor job in the summer I know how much a bottle of water helps.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but my DH had his pockets searched and got into trouble. He always carries a Leatherman tool in his pocket and uses it for everything. I guess it never crossed his mind to remove it before leaving for the park because he thinks of it as a tool, not a weapon. Anyway, at the turnstile the CM noticed the clip on his pocket and asked him to please empty his pockets. When he saw the Leatherman, he pulled my DH aside and explained that knives were not allowed in the park. It was soooo embarrassing, but the CM was very nice. We just had to rent a small locker to keep it in for the day. It never dawned on my DH to refuse to empty his pocket. We appreciated the vigilance of the CM...their job is to help keep us safe!

Stopping a leatherman must be kind of a judgment think for the security person. Mine is always in my bag and no one has ever questioned it. Maybe that don't realize that one of the implements is a small knife blade. I've used it in the parks too to remove price tags from stuff we've bought.

Regarding water, I bring lots of it in and have never had a problem. I would agree with those who think the guard was just joking around or the bottle contained alcohol.

We bring in bottled water literally every time we enter a park, and it's never been questioned.

:confused3

I know it is a pain (as I usually have things in my pockets too), but I don't understand when asked, why you wouldn't just show it.. No big deal, I have been asked before if my pockets looked too full.

Its not like you couldn't sneak something in if you wanted to, but why someone with nothing to hide wouldn't show them is beyond me.
I usually bring in about 7 bottles for me and the DD5. Although I'm researching a new filtered water sports bottle to save weight and cost.

This last week I was asked for the first time, on 2 occasions to open the cubby areas of the stroller. the last 2 times I went they've been super slow in looking through things.

I agree that maybe the lady was being nice and giving it to the security guard, or maybe a friend/acquaintance giving it to her?

Or also, that it was misunderstood, and just a joke (and the guest kept it and moved on).

For the most part, I find the security very nice, and always making small jokes!
Now that I think about it, they're constantly making small talk and jokes.

I've only had one bad experience (that I wish I reported, but didn't: one female guard early morning MK was complaining to another female about their boss or manager, using VERY inappropriate language- especially since we were completely surrounded by young children dressed up for CRT and CP reservations.)
