Confirmed runDisney Virtual race series

rD's 5k medals are pretty cheap. Not sure that I would sign up for a v5k through them unless the medal was better, and I'm not a bling guy.
I'm guessing it will be similar to a kids race medal since it will be Mickey according to that photo.

Still nope for me, that money goes to running a real run Disney race & vacation. Of course, I did just check the AP site but it's not back on there yet. I mean, I get it if Disney offers it, easy money for the Mouse. Maybe though if it was like $5 but I don't see that, maybe it will be for a charity?!?! Curious though...

This. I'm sticking with my snap judgement that it seems like a blatant money grab to me. And SO MANY EYEROLLS on the written description that was screenshotted from the AP site!

I've run virtual races before and enjoy them but for a runDisney event I'm not so sure. If runDisney is going to offer virtual races I am intrigued and looking forward how they will handle it.

I would be "yes" if I can pair it with training for a RD Race- Like DDD. My DD (age 14) is also training and would love it!
Why not add an extra medal to the rack if I am running the distance anyway.
But "cost" is still a factor- considering I have done/doing GSC, Tink Half and DDD.
RD is a direct deposit line item for me this year!!

Part of me thinks "well... I'm going to run anyway... and it's a good cause..."

The other part of me says "Nope. Maybe if they let me PICK a charity..."

Dunno...

I am pleasantly surprised that what they're charging isn't way more than many other virtual races. I will say that many virtual races I've seen give out actual medals and not the plastic-y medallions Disney normally gives out for 5ks but who knows. I don't see myself registering but I hope anyone who does enjoys themselves!

Dang it, I thought the idea was ridiculous when I saw it, but now that it's actually happening, I kinda want to do it.
Seriously.
I have to talk to my sister about it. I'm going to be doing these runs anyway, and it's a good charity...
Can someone please talk me out of this?

So I pay $65-70 for a 5k at Disney and get a rubber medal but pay $39 for a 5K I run at home and get an actual medal. Something doesn't seem right here.

In this case, you are basically just paying for the medal and not all the costs associated with running a real race.

ETA: I did the princess 5K this year and the medals are a bit disappointing. I don't think that I will bother getting up for the third day to do a 5K during a race weekend again. Unless it is for Dopey someday.

I signed up as soon as I saw the post on facebook. I forgot to check and see if they are offering any pass holder or DVC discounts. I just got caught up in the new bling, lol!

That is true. I am thinking about it but don't know if I want to pull the trigger.

Do you think they'll limit these or just keep selling?? :confused3
No reason for them to limit it. There are date restrictions for each event - windows where you need to complete registration between this date and that date.

All it costs them is whatever the cost is to make medals, print bibs, and produced the series tumblers - and to ship them out (which can't be that much).

Whoever thought of this is a genius. They're getting people to pay to do runs at home, and runDisney doesn't have to use their own time or resources to actually put the runs on. Someone is gonna get a promotion out of this.
