Confirmed Rumor: Disney Vacation Club to Start Giving $200 Gift Card to Resort Guests Who Tour Property

If married, must both spouses attend? DH would never do it but is okay if I want to do it.

You should be able to attend yourself. They probably won’t even ask if you are married, technically they shouldn’t even ask. DVC isn’t skinny like other timeshare companies.

Plus are you married? Sounds like a no to me, or to them anyway. 😂 (sarcasm if not clear).

Does anyone know if the gift cards are being offered at DL? The website implies it's still a "more than $8 gift" at DL, but wasn't sure if that was just a failure to update the website or an accurate depiction of the offer. Going to be in Orange County in a week and could make time to stop by for a DVC tour if it meant I got a $200 gift card.

What amount of time commitment is the tour?
Both of my daughters did the tour (separately - 2 different days) when we were there last week. They're both young (early 20's) and their guides asked them right off the bat if they were interested in buying in the near future or were they gathering information for the distant future. The each said they were gathering information for the future (which I'm sure the guide understood to mean: I'm only doing this for the gift card). The guides each said they'd just give them a basic overview and they could ask questions if they wanted more details. Their tours were both less than 15 minutes. I'm not sure how long it would last if you're truly interested.

Generally the married question is that both sign the purchase agreement.

Their question was if they must attend the tour, which is no.

But yes if they decide to purchase and hold title jointly the spouse would need to sign. However, you don’t need to hold title jointly either. If they decide on a mortgage they will maybe then need to disclose if they are married, not sure Disney’s underwriting criteria, but if Disney asks then they need to disclose but only for a mortgage app.

I took the question differently. I took it as coming from the approach that salesman used to use majorly against women (generally not men) that they lacked the autonomy to make a decision without their husband so he must be in attendance.

Most if not all other timeshares require both spouses to attend sales presentations. That requirement is so common that on TUG one of the ways suggested to evade the push to sign up for a presentation is to wink and tell the body snatcher (yes, that's a common name for them) that the person you're with is not your spouse!

I always thought it was a legal requirement due to community property laws or some such.

Yeah it’s not a legal requirement. It’s a sales tactic that I’ve never seen Disney employ. The only requirement to disclose is if a mortgage application asks you or you want to hold title jointly.

But as I initially suggested also to just deny being married. I’ve seen it mostly applied to women more aggressively in my experience anyways.

Do they do the tours on Sundays? Have a 2 night Pop Century stay pre-cruise, so I thought my mom & I can go, then a 2 night AKL stay post cruise so my friend can do a tour then since this thread indicates one per resort stay. (Beginning of September…I was searching to see if this deal was still happening. Had a friend do it in April)

in my experience guides will tour whenever you'd like. haven't done a Sunday tour specifically, but I doubtmm previous or current guide would have objected.

We did a tour of VDH and didn't get a gift card. They gave us a print and some stickers for my son.

I believe it's only WDW and you have to be a resort guest to qualify (that is more an answer to the question about just dropping by when in Orange County from another poster). Curious to see if it is still happening.

I hope this program remains limited in scope as it reminds me a lot of other (less ideal) timeshare systems!

Pre-Covid they were doing this for awhile. It was 75 for deluxe (per person), 50 for moderate (per person), and 25 for value/offsite (per person) plus 3 FP+ per person that toured. So it actually isn't unprecedented for DVC to be doing this at all.

Hm. Recently toured Ft. Wilderness cabins with my friend. She’s not a DVC owner but I am. A gift card was never offered to either of us. We each got a print. She got a string bag for the printed info she got. Should she have been given a gift card? She’s interested in buying Riviera and asked a lot of relevant questions so I don’t think the agent felt like we were wasting her time. Not sure what happened.

We bought over 20 years ago, but I took the tour by myself on a solo trip. At that time the guide I had was super. He showed me around and gave me all the info so I could share it with DH. And since he ultimately made a sale, hopefully the word got around that allowing just one spouse to tour may work out OK.

Current members are not eligible, but not sure why your friend wouldn't have been offered, unless they have discontinued/changed the promo.

Wanted to update the incentive is now $50/adult if staying at Value or Moderate resorts. Called today to inquire what the current details were since we will be on property soon and she said both my husband and I would qualify for one each. I would love to see the Riviera so may do it just for that, haha.
