Hey guys- just posted the following as a reply on another thread but didn't think it would reach some who would be interested:

Just returned from the event hosted by wdwradio at the AC last night. It was confirmed by the suits in the joint that the AC will NOT be returning in any shape form or fashion.

All of the major artifacts will be going to Hong Kong- To settle any rumors of some artifacts already having shipped, it isn't true. Other than the booze and kungaloosh machine, everything is still there. I asked about the replacement Colonial and was told that "EVERYTHING" is still on site and will be shipped as a lot to HK.

It was really sad- all of the CMs were teary-eyed throughout the evening.

One of my sources also told me last night that AC, Rock'n'Roll Beach Club and Motion buildings are all coming down. That confirms an earlier rumor.

There is nothing confirmed. Even if the buildings come down it may just be making way for a larger building to accommodate a dinner show type place.
That's what a source actually told me just last night.

I certainly wouldn't put a lot of faith in the Disney suits, as they wouldn't be able to say if it was coming back.

I know you're a huge fan of the AC, but it's fate is sealed and it's off to HKDL. There's no point in getting your hopes up at this point. Disney has made it perfectly clear that the Pleasure Island of yesterday is gone for good. The buildings are coming down for a more generic, all-day experience for the whole family. At least it will live on in some form.

Respectfully, I have reasonably good reason to believe it's fate is not sealed. I actually have something bordering on tangible evidence.
Please don't get me wrong, in no way am I saying that I have absolute proof, but I do have something more than rumor.
I know I will get "spill the beans" comments, but it's sensitive info.

If you are correct, and all the evidence says you are, and PI is destined to be "a more generic, all-day experience for the whole family", then I have one request of Disney
Let it die!
Rename the place, for the days of Merriweather are done.

We close the Pleasure Island history with one final entry:
Merriweather Adam Pleasure (1873-1941?) (2009 for sure)
Rest in peace Grand Funmeister!

The way I understand it, AC probably won't be torn down until late 2010 at the earliest--this is a 3-year plan, and they are starting at the east side of the Island. The decor is leaving, and there have been zero rumors of a new dinner show from previously reliable sources; sorry but I just don't see this one happening.

Any further word on Mannequinns/8-Traxx? They definitely seem disinclined to use them for anything, but rumor has it they can't be torn down without disrupting power to the whole Island for weeks.

I can confirm that Maistre Gracey has some information that when viewed would lead one to believe that Disney does have future plans for AC. Maybe just in Hong Kong, maybe at Disney World.

No, nothing. It seems confirmed that the power grid to the entire island is housed there so they can't tear the place down. But I don't understand the inability to bring the building to code so that it could be reopened.

I don't know what is going to be the ultimate fate of the AC. I for one won't believe it until that space is open as something else.

As for the suits, does this sound familiar, "What building by the Contemporary? We're not building anything there. There is no timeshare planned for Contemporary." I worked for DVC and do you know how stupid we looked when we were forced to deny Bay Lake Tower even as carpet was being put down? It wasn't until a week before the announcement that we were told to stop denying and go to neither denying nor confirming.

Disney's policy is to deny until they are ready to make their own announcement. Like I said, I don't know what will ultimately happen with the AC space. I hope they do bring it back, I had my first drink there and it was one of my favorite spots in WDW. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm also not going to believe something because a suit said it. When your job is on the line (and it is with Disney when it comes to secrecy) you're going to lie if you have to, whether you have a red, yellow, blue, or gold stripe id. Not saying that's the case here, just pointing out that no sources, especially when the source is speaking publicly or officially, is reliable. How else would completely contradictory rumors from supposedly firm sources crop up? There's only 1 truth so someone is lying somewhere.
