Condom in bed..

I could not have said it better myself.

The OP asked to be moved. If she wanted a preferred room at a value then she should have asked for that. Or, when being moved to the upgraded resort, stated that they needed a preferred room. I'm betting most think that moving from a preferred value room to a standard moderate is still an upgrade.

I definitely get that. If it was me I would never have chosen to go to POR, but I've been there before and know I don't like it. I'm not going to bash OP for being upset about the move, though.

not bashing OP for wanting to be moved, just why ask to be moved to only be unhappy with the move? and i agree i personally could never stay or be happy at any large resort. when i get off the bus or other transportation after a long day at the park, i want to be within crawling distance to my room.

If this had been any other hotel, other than a Disney one, I bet the reactions would be much different with people telling her there would be no way they would stay there after that.

do you know how many resorts have had bed bug complaints - and yet people still stay at those resorts? and let me tell you - when one room has them you can bet a whole bunch more do too.

The victim-blaming in this thread is making me cringe. Guys. Please stop telling OP how she should feel, or what she did wrong, she came here to share her experiences, vent her frustrations, and ask for contact info. You're all being exceedingly unkind. I'm appalled at the state of the room she found and will remember this thread when friends ask me for suggestions of where to stay.

How many people who found bed bugs in their hotel room went back and stayed at that hotel?
People here reading this thread will still stay at POP, but I bet if one of them finds a condom in their bed they won't be back.

Who cares how many rooms it had, the fact is the OP did not feel comfortable staying in that resort after seeing the lack of housekeeping. And considering what was left in her room I don't blame her.
If this had been any other hotel, other than a Disney one, I bet the reactions would be much different with people telling her there would be no way they would stay there after that.

And yes the not moving after that was her choice, but I still think they should have upgraded her to a comparable room there. If she paid extra for certain things at POP, she should still get those things in her upgrade.
The 10 suitcases, maybe it wasn't suitcases, just 10 pieces of luggage including all their carry ons and stuff.

Maybe "people" would react differently but I wouldn't. If it had been any other hotel, you'd have the option of taking clean room they find you or walking out. You might get one night comped, but you likely wouldn't get your deposit back if you just walked out. Housekeeping fails can happen in any hotel. I've had fewer happen at budget hotels than at 5 star resorts, actually.

I've had ONE incident of bed bugs. They offered to move me. I said no, I want to leave. They said I'd still lose that night's money. I said fine. Walked out, wrote to corporate, got a voucher.

I will agree that they should have upgraded her within POP but my guess is that there were no preferred rooms to give her. Disney hotels book up, and values book up the fastest. They didn't move her to POR specifically because they thought she'd like it. They moved her there because it was a moderate with availability.

And if I didn't like the room a hotel moved to me to, I'd go down to the front desk in the morning and explain that I am throughly unhappy with the situation. She wants to stay in that room and only complain so no one experiences the same poor housekeeping. You know what that solves? Absolutely nothing. Because she will still be unhappy about the room and housekeeping will screw up in the future.

No housekeeper deliberately did that. No one thinks it was ok. It wouldn't be ok in a hostel or a campground or even on a relatives couch that they allow you to crash on. It wouldn't be deliberate anywhere as well. Even someone's most disgusting cousin is not ever going to think it's fine that your kid stumbled across his used condoms. The hotel is well aware they screwed up. They tried to fix it. If she's unhappy about the fix but doesn't want to fix that, that's her problem.

Some people react to nasty things viscerally and move forward out of a sense of revulsion. And then later, they think through what happened and can sort it out better. Sometimes, when they're sorting it out, they realize things are even worse all around than they imagined, sometimes better. I'm one of those people. I know I would have reacted exactly like OP. And then I would have been even more upset that all the careful planning I had done *so that I could handle my young ones and everything they need to be happy* was undone but that I couldn't do anything about it. This is really a terrible situation and were it me, it would take a couple days to get over my disappointment. One way I could help that along would be to send pictures and a complaint email up the chain.
It doesn't really matter how other people, those who don't react to things quite so viscerally, think you could have done this, it matters how it made you, the customer, react and feel. I hope Disney comps you for the first night and acknowledges the real distress they caused with their mistake.

ive stayed at resorts where other people have reported bed bugs. not in my particular room, and not during our exact stay, but in the resort itself. just as i've also shopped in retail stores that have reported cases of bed bugs. you can't live in a bubble. sh** happens. it for certain sucks when it happens to you, but it still happens. its life and you move on.

THIS!!!!!! This is exactly how I feel. I am blown away that I was in the bed with someone else's condom at DISNEY. I just feel like this is a BIG deal and should NEVER had happened. It's not that I WANT anything it's that when I come to Disney I exspect certain things and this blew my mind.

The condom is one issue - but the fact that you were sleeping on someone else's sheets grosses me out even more. The condom being there made you know the sheets were dirty - otherwise you would have slept there and never known.

We are all going to react differently. I can see myself reacting the same was as the OP because I would be so totally disgusted that I wouldn't want to be there. Is it rational? I don't know, but you know what I'm not going to sit here and tell her she should have felt a different way, or handled it differently. She didn't do anything wrong.

1. If they liked or preferred Pop, why not stay there? The response that "well after that one dirty/disgusting room, I'm never staying there again" doesn't fly. I think every resort whether the Contemporary, POFQ, ASSports, resorts in other locations around the world, there's likely to be a problem in at least one room. Whether you're that unfortunate guest that gets that room or not, luck of the draw. But to say I'm never staying there again, I feel is a stretch. As for that room, absolutely gross for more than one reason - but why not have management walk them to another available room at Pop, have them look it over together and make sure it was more than acceptable? Why the move to another resort that god knows what kind of problem will arise there?

2. I can't imagine management just told them "if you want to move, this is where your staying and take it or leave it". They likely gave OP options and that's an option OP chose.

If I ever found a used condom in a bed in a hotel I'm staying at I can definitely say I will never stay in that hotel ever again. I don't care if it's Pop, Days Inn, Grand Floridian or the Marriott. I will never stay in that hotel again. I would be completely turned off. Maybe it's not rational but it's a dirty, used condom.

And that is you, but not everyone feels the same, and that is OK

if you found a bed bug in your room, would you never stay in that hotel again either? yes a condom is gross, and so are bed bugs. and bonus is they travel with you, so now your own home is a bed bug hell.

If I found a bed bug in my room I would asked to be moved and not stay there again. That's why there are hundreds and thousands of hotel chains and hotels.

Okay, everyone.

OP's questions have been answered. We all know dirty condoms are, indeed, gross and dirty. Hotels, and housekeeping, are not perfect systems. It's very understandable to vent. We all have different reactions to setbacks and different opinions on how best to move forward, and different thresholds for leaving a business/hotel/whatever. Disney housekeeping and hotel management made a mistake, and that's more likely than not well beyond the "brought to our attention" phase.

Let's all, please, move on from this thread, and for future visits, bookmark this article I wouldn't have found otherwise had I not read every post in this thread: http://www.wdwinfo.com/planning/5-t...en-first-walking-into-your-disney-hotel-room/

Right?

I would not stay in a hotel again that knew they had bed bugs and didn't care. But most hotels do care. It's a huge problem. If you have a serious fear of bed bugs, you shouldn't stay in hotels or actually let any relatives or guests who may have stayed in a hotel stay in your house either.

I probably would have barfed when I saw that condom. So I totally get the OP's upset at that. I just think her other complaints, her refusal to stay in POP, and her refusal to ask to be moved again if she doesn't like POR are nonsensical.

And I bet if you googled those thousands of hotel chains and hotels, they've all at some point had bed bugs.

Yes but they weren't in my bed or the bed that my children were laying in.

I would be open to staying at Pop even with this happening to the OP. Had it been me who found a used condom laying in bed with my kids it would never be an option again. I would be traumatized.

For me, I would have to experience something myself before totally writing a place off.
I do check the bedbug registry and if there are tons of complaints I wouldn't stay somewhere, but a couple wouldn't keep me away. I check the bed where ever I stay and if I personally found them I wouldn't be back.
Same with finding a condom in my bed. Reading that it happened isn't enough to keep me away, but experiencing it, you bet I would stay away.
