Thanks Doc, so you can just show up there for the meeting? Is there a specific place at the resort and/or a fee involved for attending?

ETA
What kind of things or topics discussed usually go on at the meetings??

Anyone can attend a DVC annual meeting. DVC CMs prefer to know in advance who is coming to the meeting, so they can plan accordingly.

In less than a month we should be receiving a written notice in the mail about the upcoming meeting. It will let you know where your meeting will take place & will include a brief budget. There is no fee for attending the meetings. The meetings are not necessarily held at your DVC resort.

topics ... I always say it reminds me of a "rules of order" book. There are actually two meetings - the board of directors & the members. The budget is presented for the resort by the DVC Treasurer. We have a new Treasurer this year, so it should be interesting to see how it is presented. I doubt there will be much change, but who knows :).

There are two question & answer sessions - one for just the budget & another for general DVC related topics. Some members can be very picky about their issues/concerns like "my washer is too noisy" (heck, it's a GE & GE appliances tend to be noisier than other brands) or "there aren't enough channles on TV for my children" (you're on vacation, not a tv watching marathon!), etc. Others have genuine concerns about various topics like maintenance, making reservations, etc.

I encourage any DVC member who is in the area at the time of any of hte annual meetings, to attend. You can meet the CMs who run your resort - general manager, supervisors of housekeeping, engineering, front desk, genral store, etc. - & CMs who run DVC - accouinting, member services, etc.

Yes, you can just show up to attend the meeting. I did that 2 years ago, at a resort other than my home resort. As JudithM said, anyone who's in the area is encouraged to attend, I think DVC is glad to see you at any meeting. But if possible, please let them know beforehand. No fee-and free coffee and soft drinks if I remember correctly.
I was wondering one thing about the meetings-does anyone know where they'll be held this year? In the past, they've all been at the Boardwalk Convention Center, but this year, with SSR open, I was wondering if DVC has a place there to move the meetings to.
See y'all at the meeting!

Judith has provided a great summary of the typical meeting. The board meeting itself is tightly scripted and very efficiently run. There is no opportunity for input or questions from anyone except the board members. That portion of the meeting takes 10-15 minutes total. The remaining time does allow for some interaction between members and the boars. Usually the general manager of the resort for that meeting will give an overview of any changes anticipated for the coming year and a recap of the prior year. They may introduce other staff members to aid in that presentation. The members are then given a brief opportunity for questions/comments from the floor. Often these questions are greeted with words of encouragement and notes being taken by board members.

The entire meeting will usually last about an hour before breaking up.

As already mentioned, I would encourage everyone to attend a meeting - even if it is not your Home Resort. There is a lot of general DVC information provided in addition to comments specific to that resort.

To my knowledge, no location has been announced yet- I expect that information to be forthcoming very soon. (I would expect that BWV,BCV and maybe VWL might still be at BWV and SSR and OKW might be at SSR- but the announement should be coming soon.)

Enjoy!

In your "past" :), the annual meetings have been held at the Boardwalk Convention Center. The OKW annual meetings have also been held at the GF & SSR. The first meeting I attended in 1995 was held at the GF. I don't recall if it was there again or not. The SSR site did not accomodate the meeting very well. Check-in, coffee & such & rest rooms were all in the lobby area which was very small to accomodate all the people. I for one prefer the spaciousness of the Boardwalk Convention Center.
