Condo Associations - how do they work?

Is there a link to a (plain word) summary of how condo associations work within the DVC system? Curious how much power DVC/Disney retains in decision-making and how active members are with governance. Is there real power the membership has on key decisions?

All members voting rights are assigned to the board of directors who are hand picked by DVD.

When buying DVC you assign your rights to DVD (Disney Vacation Development) who makes all the decisions as to how the resort is operated/maintained.

Yes, they do. The fact that they all work for Disney only becomes a conflict of interest if they work against the interest of the members. Disney wants to have control over the organization, so I'm sure they walk a fine line and ensure they don't cross it. The last thing they'd want is some activist members getting a judge to re-appoint the board.
