Rumor:

A persistent rumor (and I emphasize that it's just a rumor) suggests that in the near future the Concourse Steakhouse will be moving to the first floor into the space currently occupied by the resort's fast food and arcade game spot, the Food & Fun Center. The Food & Fun Center would then take the place of the Concourse Steakhouse. Personally, I hope this is true. It would give the Concourse Steakhouse a quieter, more sedate setting and keep all of the higher energy facilities grouped together. But like I said, this is only a rumor -- Disney has made no official announcement.

It's no rumor, it's 100% true. I was at the Contemporary last month & a Cast Member on the Atrium Club confirmed that this move will be happening sometime in 2007.

Will it still be called the Concourse Steakhouse? I mean, the name will no longer be relevant. :smokin:

Well if you put the DVC resort in, then you would want the counter service on the fourth floor. The plans show a walkway between the two buildings to minumize the traffic, and give the steakhouse a more upscale feal.

There will be a whole mess of changes on the Concourse level. The stores are all being moved around as well.

That is a very good question & just like you I have wondered the same thing. I would be surprised if the name does not change because how can you call it the Concourse Steakhouse, if it won't be on the 4th floor Grand Canynon Concourse Level.

As for the stores moving all around, the Bay View Gifts store will now become the main store for merchandice & I think by looking at artists pictures, they plan to sell merchandice outside on the 4th floor around the store.

The name will be changed to the First Floor Steakhouse... just kidding.
Does relevancy matter? How many folks know, let alone wonder why, it's called the "Concourse" Steak House? How long was Cindy's Royal Table named after Sleeping Beauty's Father? Does the first level of the Contemporary have a name like the "Grand Canynon Concourse Level"?

I think it would be noticed.
Correct, King Stephan's Banquet Hall went un-noticed by many. This could be because many were not familiar with the Cinderella/Sleaping Beauty storylines. After all, it had the word "King" in the name... and it was in a castle.
If you moved that restaurant to the Wilderness Lodge, guests may start to wonder a bit. :teeth:

OTOH, most people can figure out why the steakhouse in the Contemporary is called "The Concourse Steakhouse". :smokin:

Ok, here's a list of the name changes over the years for Chef Mickey and CSH:

•Concourse Steak House
Grand Canyon Terrace 10/71 - 1972
Terrace Buffet 1972 - 73
Terrace Buffeteria 1973 - 89
Concourse Grill 1989 - 95
Concourse Steak House 1995 -
•Chef Mickey’s
Grand Canyon Terrace Cafe 10/71 - 1972
Terrace Cafe 1972 - 86
Character Cafe 1986 - 89
Contemporary Cafe 1989 - 96
Chef Mickey’s 1996 -
(source;big stack of WDW guides and Birnbaums 1982 on)

Now, 'splain to me why the TS place was once called a Buffeteria/Buffet, and the buffett place never was???? :confused3

OK, so where was the Pueblo room, supposedly tucked away behind the Coconino Cove?

The Pueblo Room was located in the part of Chef Mickey's closest to the MK.

OK, so that wasn't the area where they used to have those American Express get togethers?

I for one are very glad it is moving.

I would never eat there because of it's location. Too nosy for me..
I hated the whole environment.

Good...
next time I will try it ..
hopefully it will be enclosed and and nicer ambience

because it sure needed an update

On the flip side, I loved that location, that's a total WDW location to me. When I know I'm at WDW. I still remember seeing Chip and Dale there when we ate there just after checking in on a trip when I was like 13 years old.

The "rumor" on the restaurants board is that the new place will have an Australian theme---

Outback Steakhouse?

Seriously though, how does an Australian restaurant fit with the Contemporary theme - or original southwestern influence - of the resort? Chef Mickey's, even if it doesn't completely support the resort theme, at least doesn't clash with it.

Who knows? Could be they want to adopt the popularity of the Outback steakhouse type theme.
Could be that rumor was wrong--we'll see soon enough I guess.

crazy4wdw - "Birnbaum '07 Guide confirms CR change" thread said:
I just purchased the Birnbaum '07 guide to WDW. The restuarant section confirms that the Contemporary snack bar will be moving to the fourth floor concourse.

"Snack Bar: After leaving its first floor home of 35 years, the Contemporary resort snack bar has moved up in the World...All the way to the fourth floor, beside Chef Mickey's. This spot serves light fare around the clock."

Also the Concourse Steakhouse is no longer listed as a restuarant option at the Contemporary either in the resort section or restaurant section.

Another interesting note, the last ticket price increase is not included in the '07 guide. The one day ticket is still listed at $63. I thought I read that one reason WDW increased the ticket prices in August was so the guidebooks would contain the correct prices for 2007. Guess Not!
Maybe they have not decided when CS will open. :confused3

To me, The CR doesn't really have much of a theme. They could pretty much put anything there. Its not like the GF or the Poly.

I respectfully disagree. In my opinion, a restaurant such as 'Ohana would look silly in the CR. :smokin:
