Concierge tipping

I think with respect that has been covered through the thread, I think it may be a good idea to read back all of the posts as it is covered fully already. I do not mean any disrespect however, we seem to be going around in ever decreasing circles.

I covered that personally earlier.

I agree--we get nowhere fast.

As long as DCL won't suggest any gratuity, Concierge will continue to rely on the generosity of the concierge guests.

And I think rely on them to over-tip!!!

Hi Disney Fantasy, I learned it all from you! I wish I could take a long vacation like you do, but we can only do a short 2 or 3 day vacation stay. I am just trying to help those that only have a long weekend. I think I heed to start a thread titled " Long Weekends at Disney"

Thank you.

To be honest we are forced into a corner by DCL, we do not live in Florida where you can book late and nip out to a cruise with little notice or a long weekend. To the USA its long and expensive flights that add a couple of days either end.

So when DCL choose to move a ship close to me, an hour by car, so less than MCO>>Port Canaveral then they decide the length of the cruise and you go for it.

Yes the 12 night Med in 2014 was beyond magical, and we have done the Baltics before but as he cruise is from Dover, no flights, no extra cost, no worries on luggage, well you have to go for it. in 2015 they have chosen correctly for UK schools so I understand my next cruise is 25% British.

Now I do not see the point off 3/4 night cruises by the time your on your off, and on the longer ones you really get to know your concierge hosts and they can fit more in.

Long weekends in Disney seems a good idea, people in FLorida get better weather than us, so we look in envy.

Without a guideline people may undertip.

From what I've been reading on other threads, most seem to severely overtip!!!

BUt they MIGHT undertip as well--

If the current "mostly tipped" Concierge agreement doesn't earn enough in the way of funds, it wouldn't take long for them to want to return to a full salary.

And most likely STILL get tips!!

It evens itself out, some over tip, some under tip, some tip around the same level, it averages out.

Overall the potential is to get good income.

Lets go conservative.

Lets say 20 staterooms Cat T and above. ( I am excluding Cat Vs on this just as a basic example).

If each stateroom tipped $100 a week, and again thats just an assumption thats.

$2000 in tips, it would be more than that.

Lets say its between three concierge and pooled, roughly.

$700 per host per week.

Or

$30k with 4 months on and 2 months off.

It will be more than that.

I would say so!

Now I wonder what a full salary might be for a concierge host? Seems to me they do mostly "guest services" type work, albeit on a higher, more personal level.

Probably a lot more!! I believe someone said there are 40 or so "concierge " rooms on the Fantasy. And from what I've been reading, many rooms tip 2-3-or even 4 hundred per week.

I said that earlier and you responded earlier its $100 per week.

NO--that's the agreed salary so they can rely on tips. What is the full salary I wonder for a guest services rep--certainly can't be $100 a week.

And guest services seems to be a good job description for what they do.

Yes, as said before I excluded Cat Vs it was a basic example, and I believe they will be on far more

They are an extension of guest services and a lot come up from there, and when the main concierge hosts are off then GS staff cover.

We were in the Fantasy a few weeks ago and one of the concierge guests asked Amanda, the concierge host, about tipping.

She clarified that what you put on the concierge tip is split between the 3 hosts. So if you want to tip the bartender & food hosts you do that separately. She said some people don't tip anything as they feel they have paid for concierge already and she said some people tip $300-$400 per host. So she said you should tip whatever you feel is right for you.

Nice feedback.

We just sailed the Fantasy last week and our concierge host said they were tipped positions. I was so confused about tipping and it seemed inappropriate to ask which i told her, but i needed to know. We really didn't avail of their services much so it was a hard one to figure out.

If it's truly a tipped position, tips are customarily given for services rendered.

In the end I guess that's the question --what did they do for you? OR rather, what did any one or two of them do for you? OR did all 3 do something for you?

We were just on the Fantasy and I ended up tipping the concierge hosts a certain amount that would be split between and they gave extra in cash to those I felt deserved. I did make sure that the host(s) I was not giving extra was/were not in the lounge at that time so they would not feel slighted. We then gave cash to the bartender (Alonso who was fabulous and very accommodating), the lounge assistant and our assistant stateroom host who was so sweet when I went to give him his envelope he said no that goes to the stateroom host. And I said no worries, I had already taken care of him. We definitely felt spoiled in concierge and it was so nice to have kind of a one-stop-shop for everything and not have to run around the ship to book a placeholder, view photos, etc.

Just for clarification. I don't want to underripe but I don't want to break the bank either. For a 3 night cruise with 2 adults no special requests. $14 x 3 = $42. So rounded up a $45 to $50 tip for concierge and around $60 for a 4 night? TIA

ETA Would this amount be per Concierge Host or for all 3 if on the Dream?
