Received our 2005 guide recently, WOW I couldn't beleive the points increase @ most of the Concierge properties. When we joined last year I didn't realise that the only properties that stayed the same price were the Vacation Club sites. Seems we will have to up our points total to stay at these off site properties. Anyone else out there under the same assumption?

I didn't realise that points for the hotels could be changed either, when I first joined, and looked forward to staying at OKW one year and then a few days at DLP the next!! Having watched the points skyrocket over the last few years, I've definitely given up on that idea!!

I was orginally really annoyed about it, but I've chilled out about it now!! If I can, I will rent leftover points and put that towards the cash price. I do wonder where it will end though - how soon before it takes up someones yearly allocation just to stay a night at GF!?!

find the regular price of the resort you are interested in for next year - multiply it by 1.12 (taxes) - then divide by $10 (the price DVC points currently rents for).

this should be close.

now for the weekend -it is close to 180% to 200% markup - like they do DVC resorts.

they start during this in 2002.

this only works with the WDW resorts.

I haven't tried to figure the others out.

WDW is valuing the DVC points by what DVC says the points are worth - $10 a point.

Oh - REGULAR PRICE - they are ignoring all their discounts....

That's a good reason to read all the documents carefully before signing next to all those Mickey Ears. It's in there.

Too bad DVC guides are not required to mention the potential (so far guaranteed, LOL) increase at the same time they talk up all the opportunites to use DVC points for other vacations - i.e., cruising, other WDW resorts, etc.

Hope this hasn't made you regret your purchase.

Best wishes -

from 1991 to 2001 the Polyn was 22 points in the value season.

It was a bargin (my opinion only). Some member then were complaining about the price. Someone pointed out that the Poly Lagoon view was $355 a night to rent. so 22 points was a bargin.

I can only guess someone from the WDW resort (not DVC) was paying attention and demanded a new contract.

DVC has contracts with all the things that aren't DVC - they have to be renewed each and every year.

I wouldn't increase DVC points to use other resorts -- even the WDW resorts that are not DVC. That is not cost-effective. I would just invest the money now and pay for those resorts when I stay there. Or join another timeshare.

Only increase points if you're going to use them MOSTLY at a DVC resort.

Other resorts outside the timeshare systems are not really a good use of timeshare time. Each year those exchanges need to be renegotiated. It is my impression that they will always continue to rise, while your timeshare usage stays the same. If you want to go to hotels, don't buy a timshare.

We discuss it here all the time. IMO, it is a poor decision to buy DVC with the idea of using the trade options. Use them at DVC and pay cash for the rest, you'll be better off. If you have extra points, rent them and use the cash for the other options.
