OK, this is just me ... but having stayed concierge on the Wonder and the Magic, I was hoping that the in-room treats delivery would be stopped with the treats available in the lounge. I mean, I know I can tell them it's not necessary to deliver the treats. But I also tell our cabin steward that he need only come during turn-down service and yet our room is cleaned twice a day anyway. :)

It's just that we rarely, if ever, eat the treats delivered to our room. I had thought that with food being available in the lounge that we could grab a snack when we wanted it instead of wasting the treats delivered to the room that we hardly ever want or eat. Looks like we'll still be wasting those treats.

So since the treats seem to be a bit on the overkill side, wouldn't it be cool if Disney replaced those treats with, say, one free bag of laundry or the pressing of a few items? I think I'm going to start a campaign. :goodvibes

Anyone can iron for me ANY DAY!!! PLEASE!!! :yay:

Most people either love concierge or don't.

I love it..... cruised DCL with and without. And you certainly don't need it - we had just as much fun without it. However, if you have a special request it helps. We really wanted a bridge tour years ago when we were on the Magic, and I'm sure if we were not concierge it never would have happened.

One question that just flashed through my brain.

Can I request Coke Zero in my room?

I called the concierge line, gave my reservation number to her, she had to request it via email and then she got back to me within 2 hours saying it was changed. It is showing that way when I log into my reservation now. :thumbsup2

That is great!!! I'm going to call tomorrow to see if they can change it for us! Thank you so much for the tip!

It doesn't hurt to ask, all they can say is NO is they can't make it happen. But you won't know if you don't ask.
I haven't seen Coke Zero on the ships, but I read a post a few days ago that said someone in their family had Coke Zero waiting for them in the dining room each night.

I have to tell you that I have been reading and seeing all these Dis reports and it has of course, affected my dreams. :rotfl: Last night I dreamed that we were ordering breakfast in our Category R room and being that I am not a big breakfast person, I ordered a shrimp cocktail and a scone with devonshire butter. :scared1: Too funny I must say.

Nice perk...unless you've reached Platinum Castaway Club status. Six more to go for us for that though. :(

Big deal. 30 seconds after boarding the ship, this really won't matter.,

Another non-perk....unless you get to the port late, then it could be of some benefit.

Internet access could be nice if they provide the computers since there isn't a public internet location on the Dream.
Large screen TV? They're all over the ship
Complimentary food and beverages? LOL...is this really needed on a cruise ship?? Now if they're talking alcoholic beverages.... :)

*yawn*

A walled in deck without a pool where I can't look out and see the sea...or the island we happen to be ported at. Not for me.

Pretty sure I'd like this...which is part of the problem. Having to get up, get dressed and get out of the room to have breakfast is part of the motivation to get us going in the morning.

Again...on a cruise ship do I really need more access to food?

Interesting...but don't know.

???

The team that doesn't staff a desk that has to be reached by telephone? Perhaps I should send a gratuity to the reservation agent who I bookd my cruise with over the phone.

:lmao: Brilliant. You convinced me not to upgrade. My husband thanks you!:flower3:

I called today and asked if we could switch and the DCL concierge cast member said, "of course, you're concierge"!! WOW!!! He was SO nice and SO helpful! He also made a note to reserve a cabana for us when they open their offices on Monday morning as our 120 day window opens on Saturday and they will be closed. Also took care of our bed rails and our dining rotation request. If this is a sign of things to come, this is going to be some cruise!

The shoreside concierge team is great. The 120 booking window for our April cruise also opened on a Saturday. My wife contacted concierge about a week before our booking window opened with a list of things we wanted (shore excursion in Nassau, Cabanna at Castaway Cay, Palo Brunch and Dinner Ressies, Preferred Dining rotation, and Private table for dinner).CM said he would take care of everything first thing on Monday morning. By 9:00 am we received an e-mail confirming all of our requests. Well worth the extra cost IMO.

Wow! That's awesome! I was going to make some reservations online at midnight on Friday, but maybe I should just make the requests via phone or e-mail and ask them to do it Monday morning? I'm so afraid I'm going to miss something by waiting. I didn't know you could request a private table. My DH will love that - not a big social butterfly!

One question that just flashed through my brain.

yes

We were on the Wonder Panama Canal and this time we got unlimited pop and water. We asked if they have Sprite Zero as it is now available at the drink station and he said no, but they have Coke Zero. I'm not sure if Coke Zero was at the drink station too

I stayed in the Roy Disney Suite on the Magic a few years back and here are some of the neat things they did.

1. My dad mentioned to our concierge lady that he was on the top deck and his visor that he had gotten on the first Disney cruise had flown off into the water. When we came back to the room a few hours later there sits a brand new visor for him.

2. On the first cruise I took a tour of the Theater. I got to see the costumes and they explained how they ran the theater. They had quit doing that tour in the few years that between the cruises and our concierge arranged for a private tour with the stage manager for me. I got to go up on the stage and see up close the set and exactly how it all worked.

3. I was extremely excited to dress up for the captain's gala and made everybody in my family bring dress clothes (huge task, let me tell you!). But as we were driving to Florida I realized i left all my formal dresses hanging in my room at home. My mom has my dresses fed-exed to St. Marteen and one of the ladies of the concierge team had the task of getting off the ship, finding my dresses, and making sure they were hanging READY TO WEAR in my room by the time we got back from the day in port so that I could participate in the formal festivities.

4. My aunt and cousins were upset that they had not see Stitch anywhere on the ship. Our concierge lady had a private meet and greet with Stitch in a lounge while it was closed.

5. Everyday there was some "extra" in our room. We received plates of chocolate covered strawberries, choc. chip cookies, etc. We got about $50 total in Arcade cards. We got signed 5 x 7s of the Disney characters. At the end of our Cruise we got a poster of the Magic signed by all the employees assigned to us (wait staff, concierge staff, housekeeping, favorite bar tenders, etc) and the captain and main characters. It is hanging on the wall next to me as I type this actually.

6. When the entire ship had to go thru customs, there were lines everywhere. We got up, still in our pjs and went straight to the front of the line.

Im sure there were other things they did for us that I just can not remember.

It was by far the best cruise. Not for the perks you "get" but because of the way Concierge goes to infinity and beyond to make all your dreams come true while aboard. I think it is 100% worth it if you want to shell out the extra cash.

I agree with the OP. We were on the Magic in 07 in category 2 even. Things were done for us that we never asked for. Just things mentioned in chatting with the concierge team.

My nephew was planning on going into the Navy and was interested in all the tonage and specifics of the ship. On returning back one day, there was a fact sheet about all that kind of junk signed by the Captain to never give up his dreams.

I had purchased a book in the gift shop. The concierge asked what about it caught my eye. I said I just collect things Disney and that books is one of the things in general I collect, all types, mostly signed ones. When returning back one day, my book was opened and all the officiers of the ship had signed it.

Pirate night we had very rough seas. Many were very sick after dancing on the deck with such high waves. We went back to our room, 3 of our party of 6 were ill. Concierge called and asked how we were doing. It was late, 10-1030. I said 3 were very sick. Ginger Ale and sea sick meds and plain crackers were sent up to us immediately.

We laughed because the there were 4 robes in the room and 6 of us. We were traveling with 4 teen boys. We said we wanted to get a picture of us all eating milk and cookies in bath robes and we were going to make 2 of the kids just tuck in the back. Concierge laughed at our silliness. These boys did some real eating let me tell you. Concierge said hold on, left the room, returned (it was mid morning) with 2 more robes, milk and cookies and took the picture for us!

The boys LOVED the mickey rice crispy treats. Something about the ears I guess. Every single day there were 6 of those left for us in the room. We didn't ask. Thats the thing with concierge...good concierge... Its the little things you wouldn't ask that they notice, hear, or think would make your cruise more special...more magical.

We seriously asked for nothing special. They asked what type of soda/water drinks we wanted and kept those stocked for us. They asked how our servers were, they asked how our Palo tea was, they asked how our room attendant was, they asked how our excursions were... everything was great.

Staying concierge in the resorts is not the same as on the ship. I am truly hoping they don't lose that specialness now that they have a lounge on the ship. Its not about the extra food...lets face it, there is no shortage of food while cruising... Its about every other little thing they do and give that makes your great cruise, spectacular!

Great post capturing the essence of the intangible benefits! I really hope they don't lose that "edge" either.
