We are DVCrs planning a Hawaii trip for July 2008. We would like to stay at the Grand Wailea. I need all your expertise on how to do this. I am just starting to read up on the process so please fill me in on anything I need to know.

Booking something in the Conceirge Collection is pretty easy. Just call MS 11 months to 7 days prior to your desired check in date and the CM will take care of it for you. There is a $95 fee to book something in the CC. And of course, your reservation is subject to availability.

Some other things to remember about booking a Conceirge Collection resort:

Some changes to the reservation will require another $95 payment.

You cannot book a stay that occurs during the last 60 days of your use year UNLESS you book the stay 61 days or more prior to arrival.

If you cancel the reservation in a timely manner, the points are returned to your account in "reservation status". That means the points cannot be used to book a stay at a DVC resort or for an exchange via II or the LBVTC. Reservation points cannot be banked - they expire at the end of your use year. You don't get the $95 fee back.

Late cancellations result in some points being forfeited - for the Grand Wailea that will be 2 nights worth forfeited if you don't cancel at least 15 days prior to check in. If there are Holidays in there, you may need to give even more notice to avoid forfeiture. MS can tell you for your specific reservation.

So what can you do with "reservation status" points? I can't use them to book DVC rooms?

You can use them to book something in the Disney Collection (including cruises on the DCL), the Conceirge Collection or the Adventurer's Collection.
