Our 2002 points will be used for concierge vacation. We are scheduling a trip this year to Keystone Colorado from Dec 28 to Jan 3 and staying at the River Run Deluxe.

Has anyone stayed here or will be staying here around that time? I checked on-line at Keystone, and there are no pictures.
Any pointers, recommendations for a trip like this? We haven't been skiing in over 4 years (at least).

Would really like to know about ski schools (adults and children, age 4).

WE'RE STILL ON THAT WAIT-LIST AT ALL LOCATIONS AT WDW FOR THANKSGIVING. IT'S TAKING FOREVER. I NEED TO DO SOMETHING FAST. I AM ALREADY BOOKED FOR NOV. 22 TO NOV. 27 AND THEN FROM NOV. 29 TO DEC. 3 . . . ALL I NEED IS THANKSGIVING NIGHT! THIS IS A SHAME.

TAKE CARE & GOD BLESS ALL.

I have no info or experience with Keystone. As far as thanksgiving, you should make a cash rese for that night at the resort of your choice. This rese can be cancelled as soon as (or if) the waiting list comes thru.

Each unit at River Run is individually owned and decorated. Keystone has a couple of pictures (you have to pretend as if you are making a reservation to see them.) There are some pictures at www.united vacation.com. You can probably find others by checking the image search engine on www.google.com. As for schools, I understand many learn to ski at cooper (not copper) where the rates are much lower. There are good resort/school reviews at www.skimag.com. You might consider enrolling in the PEAKS program (www.snow.com). Your multi-day lift ticket at Keystone/Breck will work at Beaver/Vail for a specified number of days depending upon how many days you purchase. We'll be in Beaver and Breck at the same time as you. We'll probably do the ski school at Beaver. While it will probably be the most expensive of the area resorts, one thing I learned at Park City last year was that "you get what you pay for." We took lessons at The Canyons (individual) and Deer Valley (group). Although we did not participate in the ski school at Park City, we observed it and the group lessons were crowded (10 or so per instructor.) On the other hand, I have read a great deal of praise of Keystone's school.

We stayed in the River Run Timbers location on points in January of this year. What an awesome place. We had a 2 br, with a kitchen, balcony, fireplace. The decor was nicer than my house, marble countertops in the kitchen, tile floors, wood everywhere. The Timbers is at the base of the mountain just a few steps from the gondola, ski-in/ski-out, and very quiet because it's secluded from the rest of the village. The building has a hot tub outside with a waterfall. a work out room and ski storage. We had previously stayed in the Silver Mill units in the River Run village, nice, but not as big or decorated as tastefully as the accomodations in The Timbers. Although everything in River Run is walkable, it's quite a luxury at Timbers to be that much closer to the lifts and ski school without having to follow the foot bridge with hordes of people lugging equip. Our now 8 yo has been in ski school at River Run for the past 3 winters. I am very pleased with how they have the mountain set up for kids. They teach them the basics at the base and then they take them up the gondola and have a ski school short run at the top of the mountain with a lift. The kids don't have to stay at the bottom of the mountain all day like some schools do. I think it makes them feel like they are doing more and they enjoy the adventure rather than feeling like they are missing out on something the rest of the family is doing. We have been able to get DVC discounts on lift tickets at Keystone as well.

What is the procedure for receiving DVC discounts on lift tickets at Keystone? Did you order them in advance, or at the resort? Do you know if you can get DVC discounts for ski school too?

Thanks to everyone who replied.

We bought our lift tickets at the lift ticket window, showed them our DVC member card and we got a 20% discount. Ski School discounts were not available with DVC. When we put our youngest in ski school, his rentals, school and lift tickets were included in his ski school package. Apply for a PEAKS card as well and you get discounts with that, plus you get points on your card for rentals, ski school, etc. We would compare the savings and go with the best deal. The points add up to rewards.

We spent this last spring break there in a 2br in the River Run section and had a wonderful time. We put our 6yo DD in the ski school and she LOVED it. We also received the 20% lift ticket discount. We definitely plan to do this again.
