Concierge/Club Level Information - Part II (Sept 2009)

I think the BWI offerings look fantastic. Then again, DH and I are foodies, and really enjoy exploring international cuisines. Would anyone happen to know what they offer at YC/CL? I've only seen a couple of pictures - mostly breakfast, and they're a bit dated (I remember cheese plates - surely it goes beyond that ;)

Also, the 5pm-7pm offerings are now only called 'wine & cheese selections'. Name changed for the reason mentioned earlier. :goodvibes

I do think the new offerings will not appeal so much to families/children but they still are really very good. The lounge was certainly a lot quieter with the new offerings than the same time last year.

I have just started the trip report for my latest BWI CL, link in my signature, if anyone is interested.

The evening offering are are bad no point coming back for them anymore. Nothing for kids.

I wouldn't say the offerings were bad. At AKL my kids weren't crazy about their hot offerings and all the veggies were marinated and all the cheese was smoked-but I still like AKL CL and my kids still love it too because they enjoy breakfast, enjoy the afternoon snacks, and enjoy hanging out in the lounge instead of just the room. There were some cheeses my DS liked, the apples with carmel sauce was very nice, the veggies were fresh so he'll eat those and those PBJ pin wheels were very good. My kids were more likely to try the hot offerings at Poly but they had such lousy breakfast offerings last summer.

Is BWI the only CL that has changed to Kouzzina? I know that restaurant is in the BWI, but just wondering. We will be staying next month at BC CL and looking at the pictures of the offerings at BWI I did not see much I would eat except for the breakfast.

Not a big veggie eater and hate any kind of dip. Crazy I know, but I am an adult that eats more like a kid. I am going to keep our CL ressie, but may not do it again in the future. We will be on the dining plan so eating in the lounge at night may not even happen, but I would like to be able to find something to eat if i did want a snack.

I'm anxious too Kristen...We are at YC CL next month and I hope the new offerings are not like BWI's new offerings...No one in my family will go for it...

Does anyone know if all of the club level are changing to food that people don't like to eat? I know that some people will still like the offerings, but most kids and some adults will not like them.

With the 40% off code for the late summer, early fall, I was thinking of going down in August and splitting my time between Grand Floridian Sugar Loaf and either BWI CL or Yacht Club CL, but now I think I may just skip club level altogether.

the food at GF RPC last month was very good. Every night there were two or three hot choices, several different types of very nice cheese, a variety of cut vegetables and dips, one or two salads, and several cold appetizers. The offerings changed a little every evening so there was good variety. It was definitely better than what we have experienced in recent years at other resorts. In the afternoons they also had very nice platters of cold vegetables (asparagus, brocolli, cucumber, cauliflower, tomato, etc) along with different flat breads and dips, which made for a nice snack. Much better than the chips and candy offered at some places.

I've been talking it over with my husband and we really still like to stay concierge, even with the change in food choices, we're still in. We just won't eat what we don't like. Disney loves people like us. They still get our money and we don't eat them out of house and home.

So we've decided on Sugar Loaf concierge at the Grand Floridian. I would love to stay Royal Palm, but it's just a little out of reach this time around. Maybe next time. But we're happy with our choice. :goodvibes

Since we are getting closer I am known for second & third guessing all of my decisions ;) I am not going to worry about it as the main time we will be eating anything from the lounge would be at breakfast. I usually do not eat much for breakfast, but it will actually save us some time as my DH and the girls can go grab something while I am getting dressed.

The girls are both teens (16) so we will not be going back to the resort during the days so we would miss out on alot of the offerings in the afternoon/evening anyway. Just panicked a little when I saw what BWI had at that time, but DH would love it :)

The thing is, at every resort's offerings there will always be something that someone doesn't care for.

The breakfast is still the same, the snacks I found better than last year, more variety, evening desserts just as good, it's just the evening offerings that had changed, but I really enjoyed them, as did others :goodvibes

Just want to check on the GF RPC. They still have tea time in the afternoon right? Trifle, banana bread, tarts?

They had this last year around 3:00 p.m each day and it was soooo yummy.

yes, they still have afternoon tea. As I recall, the offerings were warm scones with jams and cream, trifle, baked goods that seemed to change from day to day (muffins, breads, etc) and fresh fruit.

We have done club level at AKL and The Poly we are doing club level at Sugarloaf Lodge this September. Loved both, although the food at AKL was better, but it was always very crowded, we also stayed on the 5th floor and had to take the elevator up to the 6th floor. The Poly Lounge was Magical (you stay in a separate building) and it was never over crowded, we stayed on the second floor and 3 doors down from the lounge. Both were very helpful in getting ADR and doing small favors.

If you've stayed at any, what is the difference, not so much the food but the overall experience?

I love the GF and chose Sugarloaf because it away from the main lodge, which I also love, but we have little ones, and teens in our group so I though Sugarloaf would be a better choice. Hoping I made the right decision.

We've stayed in GF RPC(main building two different trips) and did spend two nights out in the Sugar Loaf at the end of one of those trips. I think we would have been OK with Sugar Loaf, if we hadn't stayed in RPC first, but it was a bit of a disappointment. The lounge was darker and really just sort of felt like an alcove off the lobby to the building.

We have young adults/teens as well as younger children including a two year old and we absoultey love the RPC. I was surprised to see how much even our older children enjoyed listening to the orchestra play at night and they also enjoyed the lounge and game tables etc. We all spent many an evening, people watching from our floor down to the main lobby.

Dh and I enjoyed the music and loved that we only had to take the elevator to the second floor and were at the monorail. Was really handy with strollers etc. The lounge was hardly ever occupied. I have so many photos that I snapped where it's just our family sitting there when we had stopped for a bite or drink.

That said, the food offerings are the same(although they seemed to disappear a lot faster in the Sugar Loaf then they did in RPC, but that could of just been coincidence and maybe isn't a usual thing)

I'm sure you'll love the GF, but if you have the option to stay in the main building I highly recommend it, regardless of the age of the children you are travelling with, you surely wouldn't be disappointed or feel out of place just because of little ones.

FYI on food offerings at YC CL

Good Morning Melissa!

I hope you had a great weekend!

True *and* false--the food offering have changed over the past few
months but for the better, I think. It doesn't include *just* wine &
cheese--that's only the beginning! During the evenings, there will be
cheese platters, vegetable platters, dips such as hummus (with breads &
crackers to dip), individually plated salads, and two hot offerings.
The hot offerings & salads are on a rotating menu, so you'll have a
different combination every day. The combinations will come from the
following:

Salads--
Tomato Mozzarella w/Balsamic Reduction
Wild Rice Salad with cranberries
Orzo Pasta Salad
Cous Cous Salad
Greek Salad

Hot Offerings--
Vegetable Spring Roll with Sweet Chili Sauce
Duck Quesadillas with Cilantro-Lime Sour Cream
Chicken Skewers with Yogurt-Cucumber Sauce
Crab Rangoon with Sweet Chili Sauce
Port Potstickers with Sweet Chili Sauce
Bacon-wrapped Scallops with Mustard Dipping Sauce

Also, just for future reference, Boardwalk's Innkeeper's Club does have
a few other hot offerings as well which include Sesame Lamb Meatball
with Tzatziki, Goat Cheese with Roasted Red Pepper in Phyllo, Duck
Quesadilla with Cilantro Lime Sour Cream, Dolmades with Avgolemono
Sauce, Chicken Vegetable Bruschetta, Vegetable Spring Roll, Pork Pot
Stickers with Sweet Chili Sauce, Baked Spanakopita, Crab Cakes with
Lemon Caper Yogurt Sauce, and Pea & Potato Samosas with Feta. All these
also on a rotating menu.

Hope this helped! Please let us know if there's anything else we can do
for you:)

Thank you!

Those were a lot of the same evening appetizers we had last summer and they were really good!

Scottmel~

Wow! What a list; however, not much on there I will eat and I can venture to say my DD16 would not eat much of that either. Maybe some cheese and a chicken skewer ;) I am not going to let it bother me though. I will just get some things at breakfast and keep them in the fridge if I need to. I do think my DH would like alot of this though, so he will be happy.

I have had trouble finding restaurants that serve non-adventurous menu's so I can have something to eat. I hate being so picky!!!!:headache: I hate having to "special" order everything, even at McDonalds :rotfl:

Gosh I am teetering on the fence now. I was so set wtih YC CL and still am but am worried about the food for DD. however I can get counter service for her, etc. I called WDW and was told I could have Bc waterview, no club level but the dining plan for 180 more for 5 days..any thoughts????

How old is your DD? We just stayed BC CL with our two boys last month (they are 4 and 5). They are VERY picky eaters. My older son did great with the CL food offerings. Younger one loved the breakfast (lots of fresh fruit and breads/pastries/muffins). We supplemented with CS meals from Hurricane Hannah's a few times (they have grilled cheese, burgers, etc.), but in general, they both ate quite a bit that I didn't expect them to.

Our older son is difficult at breakfast, and is used to having whole wheat toast at home. I simply went to the BC marketplace and bought a loaf of whole wheat bread. Toasted it up in the CL lounge each morning. They have a large selection of jams/jellies/cream cheese, so we were set! Loved that they had choc. milk in the mornings too. :thumbsup2

My kids loved the potato chips and gummy sharks (and cookies!) at snack time. We NEVER bought them treats in the parks, cause they just had thier fill in the afternoon and evenings. They loved all the desserts too!

In the evening, my 5 year old at a LOT of fresh veggies, made PB&J out of these soft rolls and cups of pb&j. They always had granny smith apple slices with caramel, which my son loved too. He also really liked the duck quesadillas and veggie spring rolls! Shocking, but true! And, in the evening, they had breads, crackers, cheeses, and lots of other "kid friendly" things.

Yogurt was always available in the little fridge.

I'd not worry about CL at YC. The stuff is good! And, there are plenty of options around to "supplement" with if your DD indeed cannot find things she likes to eat.

I think the CL plus Meal Plan is overkill, but that's just my opinion.

In a week, our family of four spend under $700 TOTAL on our room charge (we charged EVERYTHING). This included all our food purchased (which included 3 TS meals) and souvenirs. We saved quite a bit on food staying CL, and we would have had MANY leftover credits if we had used a meal plan as well...
