Having only experienced concierge service at the Poly and have just returned from the Beach Club concierge, DH and I were noticing how many people use the concierge castmembers as their own personal therapist, only friend, confidant...whatever. At the BC, every time we walked past, one of 3 guests was always sitting with the conc.castmembers blabbing away about...whatever..
One gentleman was sitting there for no less than 1 1/2 hours. Every time we walked by, he was there. Sometimes I needed to interupt them so I could ask a question. I'm not saying anything bad about the concierge castmembers. Quite the opposit in fact. They were so extremely nice and helpfull, but do those traits attract people who have nothing better to do so they sit with the castmembers and talk away? I'm sure they'd like to tell them to get lost, but they can't.
One night 2 ladies got their wine at cocktail time and were still there when we returned from dinner.
I know if you're a repeat guest you can form relationships and like to chat and catch up but this was almost comical.. and annoying.
I didn't like having to interupt their conversations so I could ask questions.

Maybe the cost of CL is cheaper than going to a therapist.

One thing I've noticed is that its very easy to talk to people you don't know. That's why people end up revealing things they otherwise wouldn't to people they meet at places like bus stops and to the bartender in bars. Sometimes people just need to talk.

Yes..hairdressers ARE therepists.
You are a captive audience. However, you are providing 1 person a service which they are paying for (actually 2..remember, your a therepist too!)

We all paid for the use of the concierge personel but their time was captivated by a few inconciderate people who obviously are in need of companionship of some sort and don't have any real need to go to any parks or dine at any of the fabulous restaurants.

I guess my beef is that I didn't take a number and have my fair share of therepy time. I was too busy in the parks and eating great food! :snooty:

I am so glad someone else noticed this also. I did post about this a few years ago after a stay at the Yacht Club and got no responses. I thought I was probably just being mean-spirited. There was one man who spent a lot of time talking to the CM about her hometown. I believe in being friendly and cordial when dealing with people but this was too much. Other guests were standing around waiting to ask questions and this guy was trying to be her best buddy. Thank you for noticing this also.

It could possibly be misconstrued--I understand you noticed a pattern after several days, but I can think of a few times where I might have looked at bit odd with the concierge...

This September at the Contemporary you would have caught me at the concierge desk sniffling into a napkin twice a day as I waited for them to track down a very precious personal item that had gone missing from our room (btw it still isn't back, and they were, at best, indifferent to the situation).

Another time at WL we probably spent a good 90 minutes talking to one of the concierge staff. Granted it was about 11pm, but we still covered his entire life history, family details, and career plans. Luckily we were enjoying the conversation and getting to know him, but even if we weren't I'm not sure how I would have extricated myself politely! Sometimes the concierge CM is the one being chatty!

It just goes to show that you never really can tell the full story as you're cruising by...

Hairdressers, Bartenders, Concierge, Guest Relations/Guest Services... all have one thing in common. They are good listeners and because people feel comfortable talking to others that don't know them, you may find this.

Therefore my heading on the thread...
I didn't realize that Disney concierge/guest relations fell under the same catagory as hairdressers, bartenders, etc...

I had one concierge CM at AKL who was an *** of epic proportions. Can't imagine anyone tolerating his condescending attitude long enough to reveal anything theraputic! The rest were very nice, but luckily I never saw anyone using them for their missed sessions.

I wonder if they :rotfl: at guests who feel the need to share all the details of their lives???
