We're celebrating our 10th anniversary and both DH and DD8 have birthdays during our early Dec. trip.

We're staying at ASMo (3 nights) and Poly GVC(4 nights)-what types of magical things have been done for people for those two kinds of celebrations?

Do the resorts sometimes do special little things?

I've booked Hoop-Dee-Do as a special treat and hope to get a Princess breakfast for DD8 (& DD5)

When you get your pre=trip planner from the Poly concierge it has a place to note any special occasions and the dates. We have been there various times for anniversary and DH's BD....for the anniversaries they always put a bottle of champagne in the frig and brought chocolate covered strawberries and a molded chocolate Minnie/Mickey with a nice card. For the BD they brought a really cute BD cake, along with hats, noisemakers and streamers and set it all up...and a couple of balloons I think...very festive

At the moderates and values I think they just give you a birthday button if you go by the desk and ask. Although the florist will deliver balloons, gift baskets, almost anything you want for a fee. Just order in advance.

We're staying at the GF for our 15th in December. I don't have concierge - yet - am hoping for some AP rates at that time.

During our last trip, we stayed at the Poly. I had booked a garden view concierage. During all of our planning, I had really stressed that I wanted to make sure that my DS had a really special birthday. I had made sure that it was o.k. to have things delivered and requested that the concierage staff pick up a couple of items for welcoming gifts. My birthday was the day we arrived. I think I got the best present of all -- we got upgraded to a lagoon view concierage room for free! I was so surprised when we walked in to look out our window and see the castle! It was fantastic! In addition, I also received a palm frond basket containing all kinds of Hawaiian goodies and a beautiful chocolate picture of the Polynesian.

My DS's birthday was later in the week. I had arranged to have a bouquet of balloons delivered to the room for decorating. The staff also included a beautiful cake, noise makers, hats, a candle and a Tinkerbell certificate. It was wonderful!

The only bad thing about getting the upgrade is that we are now spoiled and can't imagine staying in any other type of room. We will be making the trek back in November to the Poly for our birthday celebrations...who would want to celebrate anywhere else?

I get goosebumps just thinking about it all!!

My husband has no idea that I've switched our ressies to Poly GVC-he thinks we're staying at the CBR. This is his first trip to Disney!!

:D

Just keep in mind that special things are not guaranteed. If you want to make sure that there is something special for someone's anniversary or birthday, it's best to arrange for it through the concierge staff and have it charged to your credit card.

It has been hit or miss with us. Sometimes there are things waiting in the room for us if the concierge staff knows we are celebrating a special occasion and sometimes there is not.

My DH and I are celebrating our anniversary and other things at WL in May. I have already arranged for tuxedo strawberries, etc. as surprises. If the concierge staff does anything on top of that then it will just be icing on the cake.

Have a wonderful trip:sunny:

If you REALLY want something special to happen then arrange it yourself - don't always count on concierge. We were at the Yacht Club in 2001 when DS turned 7. We had arranged with concierge to have ballons and an autographed picture of Goofy (his favorite character at the time) in the room. They also brought ballons and an autographed picture of Minnie for DD who was 2 at the time. Both kids also got autographed pictures of a group of Disney characters.

When we were there last June it was our 16th anniversary. We split our stay between the AKL & Boardwalk. At the AKL they gave us some perfume and cologne in a paper box that looked hand-made. We did not request anything, but the TA put on our travel plans that it was our anniversary. Nice surprise.

In November we stayed at the Polynesian and then the YC. It was nobody's bd, but we got a picture of the Polynesain made out of chocolate! Still can't believe we got it home with only one crack in it. :)

A fun thing to do for your anniversary is to go to The Garden Grill in The Land at EPCOT and do the re-hitching ceremony. DH & I did that and we had Mickey & Minnie come by. We also got a free (small, but good) cake.

PLEASE....also don't assume that the concierge staff will contact you before your trip. It has been hit and miss with us. We have had times when they have called and times when they have sent something out and then times with nothing - we have not had consistency with any resort. If there are special things you want to plan then call them!

I hope that you have a GREAT time! The Polynesian concierge is one of our favorite spots! :)

Thanks again for all of the good advice! I'd love to have some things ready in our hotel for both of my DD (5 & 8), such as autograph books, etc. Is there a website or anything I can go to and view the basic souveniers & their costs? I haven't been to Disney since Magic Kingdom their Tencennial Year (and it was on my 11th birthday :-) ).

Can I contact the hotel's conceirge service before we arrive?

a bunch of balloons and a card for our 25th Anniversary during the Millenium New Years at the GF Concierge...Palm Club Ithink it was called?

Have fun!

I'm going to agree with JESW - if you absolutely need something special to happen in order to be happy - then arrange for it yourself.....I've stayed WL concierge for our 10th wedding anniversary (rec'd one balloon and a picture from snow White and the dwarves)- Poly GV Concierge for 11th anniversary and son's Birthday (champagne , choc. mickey card) for Anniversary- no acknoweldgement for Son's 4th Birthday (I had surprises for him though), Poly GVC again for 40th B-day (no surprises); and AKL concierge (no surprises)--- Never upgraded (even when traveling at a slow time). I figure that my trips to WDW are special in and of itself- especially staying concierge!! (I don't always get to do that!)- any little surprises they give us just add to the magic - but I certainly don't count on them!!

Polynesian Anniversary-
I wasn't counting on anything, but had a nice surprise when we received a knock on the door and the Poly(concierge) sent champange, assorted chocolates and a rose to our room for our 20th anniversary. Needless to say we were very impressed.

Ooohhh! DH and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary at Poly concierge in June. We aren't "expecting" anything, but I did ask the planner to note that when I spoke to her.

I think just celebrating in the World is great!
