We currently have a room at the YC reserved and paid for at the AP rate for August. However, now that I received a letter from my accountant telling us that our rather substantial tax credit check will be coming soon, I am seriously considering upgrading to Concierge level.

Can anyone advise how I should do this? What sort of scenario would work best?

Should I just let my travel agent know and ask her what the difference is for the upgrade and then have her try to switch the ressies, or should I wait until we get there and then ask the CM at the desk how much more it would be to upgrade and if there are any concierge rooms available....

Is there a standard formula to figure out the difference between standard room and concierge?

And last but not least. For a family of five, two adults, one teen and two kids over 8, I am thinking that we'd definitely get our money's worth for the availablity of snacks, beverages, and larger rooms.... am I correct in assuming this?

Thanks for your attention - I need help!

I don't really know if you can upgrade at check-in, but I just wanted to mention that I don't think the room will be any larger because you have concierge. The room will be the same size with or without concierge.

Maybe I'm mistaken about the room sizes??? I just read a post where someone who booked concierge had a deluxe water room that was larger than a standard - having never stayed at Concierge level I just assumed that all the rooms were "deluxe" as opposed to "standard" - but then again....you know the saying about assuming.....:D

Anyhow, I'm a rookie..

YC concierge averages $100.00-$150.00 a night above regular room rates when booking in advance.

I am not sure on what they charge locally at check in - I suppose it would depend on how full they are at the time.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

If you're going to do Concierge, I recommend you plan it in advance and not at the desk. Less chance for surprise/dissappointment then.

Also Concierge provides an added level of service at check-in in some hotels. The Polynesian has a separate desk with no waiting for check-in for example. Arriving and notifying the attendant that you are a Concierge guest tends to get you a quicker response.

Also, if you upgrade to Concierge, you can get help from their planning desk in advance for difficult reservations. They can't always promise things, but they'll try. To date they have always come through for me.

There are many write-ups on Concierge visits throughout the forum. I recommend you read some of them and make your decision in advance. It's a lot of fun and great to look forward to.

In addition, the Concierge did save us trouble at breakfast, they had lots of options for the kids. We'd pick up some things and kick back in our room and have a laid back meal. The kids liked the 24 hr a day cookies and milk. The unlimited Water bottles for the park are a life-saver in hot weather.

I tend to think it's worth it for the convenience, not for the money. Try it from that perspective and you will love it!

There are larger size rooms, and suites you can book that have concierge service as well. Maybe that was what the poster booked.:D

Thanks for our input everyone!

I'm still considering my options and will probably switch in advance.

Thanks again!

YC rooms are the same on concierge as they are on non-concierge in terms of size. You are correct that some resorts (like the Boardwalk) do indeed have concierge-standard and concierge-deluxe rooms. Concierge is paying for the personal attention and amenities, not the size.

Personally, I would book the concierge room now if its something you really want- particularly value wise with a large family! My reason for this is that while you could wait for check-in, you are then risking the possibility of NOT being able to get it at all, and also you will miss out on the personal planning that can be given to you as part of the concierge experience before you even arrive at Disney.

You'll have a great time either way!
