Can anyone help me save money on concerts tickets, please? My DD has been dreaming about seeing Bruno Mars in concert for several years now. Well, he will be coming to town this summer. Tickets go on sale this coming Monday. Then problem is that I have no idea how to buy them without risking a quick sell-out. Last time I tried to buy tickets for a concert, they were gone in under 5 minutes. I was third in line and didn't wind up with any!!

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure there is a good way to do it these days. The sad fact of the matter is that the professional scalpers know the tricks and can navigate Ticketmaster's terrible website faster than those of us who only do so once in a while. I'm thinking about Bruno Mars tickets too, as a birthday gift to DH, and I have a feeling they're going to be a tough one to get.

Do you know of any presale opportunities for the show you're interested in? I don't do any I have to pay for (fan clubs and such) but I get a lot of presale notices just for having registered on venue and radio station sites and have gotten some quick sell-out tickets that way.

I've always had luck being online and accessing the website as soon as tickets go on sale. If you aren't able to get the seats you want, be patient and wait until the week (sometimes even the day) of the concert. Most artists and/or venues reserve tickets and then release them shortly before the show. I've gotten great seats for "sold out" shows this way several times.

Ticketmaster releases their tickets in "waves" - the second "wave" begins anywhere from 20-40 minutes in, depending on demand - and can go on for days. So the "trick" is to be patient, keep hitting refresh, and don't give up. Also, tix are often released 1-2 days (and sometimes same day) of concert, so, be persistent - we got 2nd row Miley Cyrus/Jonas Bros. at Face Value 1-1/2 hrs before sold -out concert a few years back. :-)

ETA: the credit card ( Citi and Amex) affinity presales are great - but also follow the "wave" rule

My DD was hoping to get One Direction tickets. Normally, we don't do concerts as it's just out of my price range....a cheap ticket(think nose bleed seat) here is $100 and when you add in multiply tickets and parking etc it's a $400 night. Anyway, a few days before 1D tickets went on sale(it was Christmas I thought I would splurge) I started putting the word out to friends, co workers and family that I wanted to buy some tickets. Through doing this DH discovered that he had a customer that was a manager at Ticketmaster. We ended up getting great seats for the concert.

So my point is to spread the word....you never know who can help you.
