Concert ticket prices - I just can't make myself do it!

I really, really want to go see U2 in Chicago Sept. 12. That's the weekend of my birthday, and I have been a fan of U2 since 1983. I've been looking on Ebay and Stub Hub and various other places for tickets, and they are outrageously priced. I could probably get a couple of super nosebleed tickets for around $150-$200 each, but I just can't bring myself to pay that! It's an 8 hour drive to Chicago, so we'll also having to be paying for a hotel, meals, gas, etc. My husband says it's fine, but I would just hate to spend that much. For one thing, I the only other time I saw them was in 1992 at the old Busch Stadium in St. Louis with a friend of mine. We had tickets three rows from the top of the stadium, so we could barely see anything. To make matters worse, there was a couple in front of us having sex right there in front of everybody! I would hate to spend all that money and drive all that way to have another bad experience. I haven't been to a concert since I saw REM in 1995, so I'm having sticker shock on ticket prices!

I saw U2 3D last year and loved, loved, loved it! I wish it was still playing, and I'd be happy with just going to see it again! I hope bands start doing more 3D concert movies. It's a great way to feel you're right up front without dealing with all of the other concert annoyances!

Keep checking Ticketmaster. They have ticket drops as it gets closer to the concert date.

Wow! You're going both nights in Boston, huh? I should have planned this better and got tickets when they first went on sale. I haven't gone to a concert in so long, though, that it wasn't on my radar until I was sitting around bored this summer & realized they are within driving distance on my birthday weekend.

It just burns me up that they rarely come to Memphis, which is just a little over an hour away. They have done so many things in Memphis, but I think they have only played there once. That was during the period between Achtung Baby & All That You Can't Leave Behind where I wasn't too keen on the music they were putting out. It makes me doubly frustrated because if they came to Memphis, it would be at the FedEx Forum, where my husband could probably get free tickets from his company's FedEx rep! My SIL has seen several big country artists there for free, and last year my husband and FIL saw the Eagles there. They aren't even big Eagles fans, but she gave them the tickets, so they went. They said they were really good seats, too. Why oh why won't U2 come to Memphis?????
