My 8 year old really want to go to a Taylor Swift concert for her 9th birthday. I thought, great... easy-peasy. Then I starting looking at the prices. The cheapest tickets start at $123!!!! Not to mentioned it would require an overnight stay in Chicago. And she really wants to take her BFF.:crazy2:

Any experienced parents or concert goers out there that can share some advise??

No advice to share. The concert her in NC started around $50 per ticket (with taxes and fees) for nosebleed seats - the only other pricing tier appeared to be $139 (not sure if that included taxes and fees or not).

We got an email from AmEx for early purchase on Friday. DH started trying when they went on sale, and didn't even get tickets on his screen until the 4th attempt, and by then (around 11am), the cheapest available (for 5 seats) was $113 and they were *still* nosebleed seats - and nowhere near the stage!!

We didn't get tickets.

Where are you looking at tickets? I pulled up that show on ticketmaster and found some in the following price levels.

US $110.13(US $94.00 + US $16.13 fees/taxes)
US $82.00(US $66.50 + US $15.50 fees/taxes)
US $61.58(US $46.50 + US $15.08 fees/taxes)

Thank you for the information. I've spent the better part of my morning researching this... :surf web:

We've decided to switch venues because the date for St. Paul is closer to her actual birthday. I don't see it listed on the Ticketmaster website so I assume they won't be selling them?? And if not, what other broker should I use?

I expect you're going to see Taylor Swift at Summerfest in Milwaukee in early July. It wasn't announced as part of her tour (Summerfest generally tries to announce their shows in late Winter) but it has probably has been booked but just not announced.

Why not see if there's a link on her website?
Yes, concerts are crazy expensive. So are live theater seats (Broadway, etc.)
Mary Poppins is playing in Philly which is so much easier to get to than NYC so I'm sucking it up but still $104 pp. It will be one of our Christmas gifts for us and my parents.

We try to keep to just 1 concert/show per year. It's just too expensive to keep going.

I was on the minute they went on sale to get tickets for dd (that my mom is giving her) for Christmas for the Toronto show. 2 tickets were over $300 with taxes and fees :scared:. These were floor tickets, but the lower levels in the stands were also the same price.
And just moments ago I bought tickets for dh and ds to go see Lincoln Park and Rise Against. Those tickets came to $220 for level one seating (so again, lower bowl in the stands). Yep .. expensive. But there is nothing my dd enjoys more than a concert. She's probably gone to 25 of them at almost 18 years of age and Taylor is as mainstream as her very varied music taste gets. Most of the shows she sees are not nearly as expensive.
This will be ds's first concert with his dad and the big Christmas gift for both of them. :)

Tix for TS in Foxboro are 145$ for the floor/lower level seats....it's a lot of money! (But we have 3 tix because my mom wants to go!)

Over 300 dollars for two tickets (on the floor) for her Atlanta concert. As soon as I saw the size venues she was playing, I knew I was in trouble. There were lower price tickets (starting at 50 dollars) but the stadium is so large, those seats won't have much of a view. (We sat in them for a concert last year, and they were a big disappointment.

My daughter knows these are birthday and christmas presents.

Sign on to her Fan site, it is showing that St Paul pre sale is November 14th
And general sale November 21st. Good luck

Check the venue's website to see what vendor they use if not TM. It should also tell you any presale dates, which you can then see if you are able to use.

I was able to purchase on the presale as well for Chicago. 300 level at Soldier Field for 2 tickets was 225 total.

If not on ticketmaster as her other shows, check the venue website. My experience has been that not all venues work with TM. Q Arena in Cleveland handles their own ticket sales, as does The Budwiser Arena in London Ontario and First Niagara Centre in Buffalo. Comcast venues almost always handle their own ticket sales. And in some markets LiveNation handles sales in place of or in conjunction with TM.

Broker sites are often filled with costs that don't show up til the checkout page, so already marked up prices become even higher before you know it.

we saw Taylor Swift in South Texas a few years ago and wow! she did an amazing concert!!

I think we paid around $100 per ticket and bought the parking pass and felt like it was a once in a childhood experience...lol

in my opinion she's far too young to go to a concert by herself or even with a friend taylor swift fan base is one of the largest therefor it will be packed

I've been to see R5 two years in a row first time for their first tour tickets were 15$ meet and greet 50$ with maybe 500 ppl
this past year 2nd tour tickets were $25 and meet and greet was $90 with over 2000 ppl the more someone gets famous the bigger the crowds and more expensive
best thing to do is find upcoming artist that she likes and get a concert to them they are smaller and just starting out

plus everyone loves being able to say i went to first tour of a group.

Yes, maybe for adults, not so much if you're a school-age girl trying to do what your friends are doing. In fact, it's really disappointing if all your friends are going except you. No kid wants to go back to school and tell their friends their parents wouldn't pay for the cool concert, but only some no-name band.

FWIW, I did see TS back when she was still country and opened for Keith Urban. She was ok. She had some creative ideas but did waaaaay too much flinging her hair around. Also at the end of each song she'd just stand there for the longest time enjoying the crowd cheering. A little while is ok but after a few times we felt like, my gosh, just get onto the next song already.

I wouldn't pay that much to see her again but probably for my kid I would. I easily spend that much on ds14's skateboarding stuff.

I got 2 for my DD for Christmas. Same present as last year and she loved it. I looked at floor tickets and it was over 1000!
