We are going to be at Disney on December 28-January 1. We have been multiple times but never at Christmas. Would I like to go another week, absolutely. However, working young adult children and college schedules do not allow another choice. So, the planner in me is starting to fret. Staying at Reunion Resort. Seven adults don't exactly fit in Disney resorts on a budget. Planning on rope drop and fast passes. Thinking of four day tickets, staying until the park closes. Will we be able to do anything in the parks?

Anything, yes! Everything u really want... honestly not seeing that happen.
But it's a great time to "see" the sights n ur AT DISNEY after all.
Here's hoping u get on some favorite rides. Have a great visit!!

Since you have never been at Christmas, try to take in as much of the decor and entertainment that you can - seeing the castle light up at night, the Christmas parade, giant gingerbread house at GF, storytellers in each country at Epcot, etc. Also, MK does the NYE fireworks on the 30th as well, so you can see them a day ahead w/slightly smaller crowds, then go to Epcot or DHS for 12/31. Check out this thread w/ a list of things to look for: http://www.disboards.com/threads/th...s-returning-whats-gone.3559593/#post-56729603.

Otherwise, as you said, RD and FP are key, and since you already know the parks it will make it easier for you to navigate around the crowds. I helped friends plan their 1st trip the week between Christmas and New Year's two years ago(same as you, only time they could go) and they still got a lot done, and had a great time, having their 3 FP and meal each day, and doing whatever else worked around that -they are actually going again this yr. ! So you as old pros should do fine!

Early arrival is imperative. Since you are staying off site, you are subject to phased closures sooner than on site guests. It is possible you would not be able to park/enter the parks later in the day

I know we plan on being there before park opening. I keep checking for a room to open up in the values or moderates, I would get two rooms. So far no luck. I just can't see paying $1000 or more per night.

I think you will be just fine as long as you go into it with the proper mindset, which it sounds like you are. I was expecting craziness when I was there over 4th of July and while yes, it was crowded we still were able to do many attractions and enjoyed every second! I know I am repeating but for us, rope drop and FP were absolutely the keys. We did as much as we could in the morning, stopped for an ADR lunch to regroup then had our FP in the afternoon. It worked out great for us! Soo much is about expectations, I think so set them accordingly and have a ball!

I'm in the same boat and what is worse is we haven't been in 6 years so lots of new things we want to see. My plan too is RD and whatever FP I can get. I know we won't get 7DMT or Frozen so we just plan to head straight to those at opening and hope for the best. I am stressed about trying to fit FP and meals and rides we can't get fp for into my schedule. I really want to do the rides that are new but my main focus is seeing all the xmas as well as my daughter's 17th birthday is NYE so I purposely chose DHS as I figured it would be the least crazy. of the 4.

As everyone else has said, get there early! At least a half-hour before rope drop. Take advantage of Fastpass+ and make the most of it. You won't get to do everything, but think of it as a time to relax, enjoy the atmosphere in the parks and see/do some of the less popular attractions. Paired with Fastpass+, you should be okay!

I've been to Disney between Christmas and New Years a few times and it can be lots of fun! We've always been able to get a lot done in the morning. We went to MK on New Years Eve once and we literally walked onto everything with no wait before 12 pm. Then by 3pm it was just a wall of people, that's the busiest I've ever seen it there. But we had pretty much been on everything we wanted before that so it wasn't such a huge deal. If you had an ADR for dinner then you'd have a nice place to relax for a couple hours during the busy time of day.

I know people like to get fast passes in the late morning/early afternoon so they can try for a 4th, but maybe it would be better to get them for late afternoon or evening during this week? You probably won't be able to get much for a 4th FP anyway. I don't know though, this year is my first FP+ experience!

Have fun! I looooved watching the NYE fireworks at MK!!! Awesome memory.

I do have ressies at Be Our Guest for our entire group and the Afternoon Tea with my girls, so anything else is a bonus, :).

I think you have the right attitude. Well, that was my attitude when we went last year at Christmas and it worked out just fine!! LOL! Christmas time, for us, was the time to do those "extra" things and be realistic as to what we could see and do in the parks.

As others have said, getting there early is key. Honestly, DHS and AK were pretty doable when we were there last year. EP is doable, but if you aren't interested in the Candlelight Processional, I highly suggest touring Future World during CP show times as the area around the America Pavilion is really, really crowded at night. If you want to see CP, consider doing one of the dining packages if they are still available. The breakfast packages seem to be the most affordable. MK is crowded, there is just no way around it and traffic will be really bad. Just get there early.

We went the same time last year. My advice is to REALLY minimize the number of dining reservations you have, especially any that are in the parks. Our wait at Liberty Tree was miserable. I think that was our one big mistake. If I ever went again that week, I wouldn't book any ADR's. Since you are staying offsite and planning early morning arrivals, I suggest late offsite dinners, especially if you want nice meals. You'll save lots of $$, eat better, get better service, and avoid the high crowds. We've had some very good offsite meals.

The other thing that worked very well for us, was to spend the 31st over at Universal. The MK fireworks are the best, but Universal was very fun as well. Universal has many holiday options, but we kept it simple and that was a great way to have a relaxing meal that was uncrowded. Many folks flock to the Citywalk party, but we avoided it.

Third, in addition to the deluxe resorts, we had great fun exploring Ft. Wilderness. The guests themselves put up all kinds of fun decorations, and people are rather friendly. Just watch out for the crazy golf cart drivers, and allow plenty of time to get there and back. If you park there, you then take a bus around the resort. You can also have fun taking the shuttle boat to CR and WL.

We also got very lucky on the weather! Since it was very warm, we spontaneously went to Typhoon Lagoon, and it was great! We don't normally go to the water parks. I think that week is also a great time to try mini-golf, or any out of the way/low crowd activites you normally skip.

First off: breathe. It's gonna be okay.

We go every year, but we stay on-site, so our mindset may be a bit different than yours.

So, yes, you're gonna have to arrive early. At rope drop, to be safe. On Christmas Day and NYE it's gonna hit at least a Phase 2, maybe a Phase 3 closure at MK; it may also hit around December 26th or 27th.

Interestingly enough, the park gets crowded shortly after opening, but it doesn't get overwhelmingly crowded until 10-11am. From Rope drop to 10 or 11am is a golden opportunity to ride everything at a much lower wait time than you'll see at, say, 12pm or later.

We, like you, are an older family. I'm 27 and my sister is 32. That's gonna come in handy as you don't have to worry about young kids needing a nap or getting cranky and drained as the day goes on. Although... I'd be lying if I said we didn't take a nap each day.

Have you booked FP+ yet? If not, that should be the first thing you do. You're rapidly approaching your FP+ window, so get ready. Take a look at what you wanna do and when you wanna do it. A park hopper is gonna be your friend for this trip. Being able to leave MK and hop over to EPCOT is gonna be key.

You're gonna wanna be realistic and open to new things. You may not get in 7DMT this trip. If you can't get a FP+ you're gonna have to ask yourself "do I wanna wait 2.5 hours to go on, or can I use those 2.5 hours to go on Haunted Mansion, Pirates and one other lower-level ride?

The nice thing about NYE is that while it's INSANELY crowded, a lot of people go early and grab a spot for the fireworks. The lines for the rides will be long, but not as terrible as you think. It'll just be crazy crowded. I'd recommend doing MK on 12/30, then EPCOT on NYE. You'll get the best of both worlds (no pun intended), MK will be slightly less crowded on NYE and you're not gonna wanna miss EPCOT on NYE. EPCOT is a bit more wide open and spacious, which makes walking around easier. Also, not sure if you or your kids are drinkers but it's a lot of fun to grab a beer or drink and enjoy the entertainment. It's definitely geared toward older families. Plus, most fireworks are visible from anywhere around the World Showcase, even if you're 15 people deep.

If you don't have ADRs, I'd recommend the following spots:

MK:
Columbia Harbour House - closest thing to TS offerings you'll find
Peco's Bill's - insanely popular

EPCOT:
Pretty much anywhere in the world showcase. Most QS are very good
Sunshine Season's is a very good QS with TS-like offerings

Don't be afraid to look around the Orlando area or check out restaurants at Swan and Dolphin. Some would argue S&D restaurants are actually better than most Disney ones.

At the end of the day, you're in Disney. You know the saying a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work? A "bad" day at Disney is better than a good day at work or at home. Last year it was crazy hot; our first year it was crazy cold. 2013 and 2014 were just right. We're from NY, so we enjoyed the fact that this was our last dose of warm weather before the dead of winter. We also enjoy the fact that we're in the most magical place on earth on the most magical day—while our family members are at home cleaning pots and pans and cooking... my mom always says it's nice knowing that she doesn't have to worry about us getting an Uber home on NYE. It's little things like that which make long lines and crowds seem so miniscule.

I have written a free ebook about Christmas week at Disney. You can find and download it at survivedisxmas.com.

Also parking will become an issue around the different parks even if your not looking at MK for the park your doing on dec 25. Just be as early as possible and be ready for the possibility your turned away if you don't.

Oh, we were onsite, so we didn't have to think about parking, but traffic getting to our hotel was unexpectedly heavy and slow. I don't normally say this, but coming from offsite that week, I suggest you allow a healthy amount of extra time to get to MK in the morning.

Getting to the to the other 3 parks isn't as bad.

If possible, visit the parks without any bags, purses, etc. bag check lines can get crazy long at rope drop.

We are not arriving until the 28th, so Christmas Day is not an issue.

You've got a great mindset! You're mentally prepared for the crowds. You're getting in to the park early.

As a former Disneyland cast member, working during this week on the other coast, one of my favorite things about this time of year was the atmosphere. You'll have so much fun, taking the time to enjoy the sights, the sounds of carolers, and even people-watching. This won't be the trip where you hustle from ride-to-ride checking off everything on your list. Some people still expect that and they're the ones who get frustrated. Even though it's crowded, the parks are full of vibrant energy and good cheer. Tapping into that makes it one of the truly "magical" times of year to be there.

Have a great time and make some great memories!
