So I've been reading a lot about the Fort. I'm really concerned that I've made a big mistake by booking a week there! I've read crazy stories about cart parades blocking traffic, large unregulated parties that go on into the wee hours, multiple groups using one campsite... I have a premium site booked and traveling in a motorhome. Anyone have good news for me?

Um, yeah. Your sources are either dramatic exaggerators or mostly making it up.

If you search you'll see live trip reports from September, October, November, December, January, February, and March. All of them chocked full of good things.

The things you mention are seriously in the minority of times. Cart parades are only like 3-4 times in a year and are a blast to get to watch. Otherwise, never an issue. There are the occasional bigger get togethers at some sites, we do hear of them from time to time but not enough for it to be an expected occurrence any more than other campgrounds you can visit. Multiple groups per site, you mostly find in the tent loops which are not premiums. There was a note of two campers on a same site back in January I believe, but again, not enough that you hear about it wrecking other campers times.

I stay at a lot of camp grounds from privately owned to Corp of Engineer, to National Park and the Fort was consistently the quietest of them all.

Of course, you can always get a resort room where you hear your neighbor flush the commode, their kid banging on the wall, people running up and down the hall outside your door or by your window on the outside walkway. You're good staying at the Fort. I'm not saying the group thing might not happen or that your neighbor might not have a get together, but it is rare we see it a problem.

And Sunday night through Thursday night is usually pretty quiet.

I agree with everyone else. While we have only stayed at the fort twice, bot times my only real complaint was that the first time there, I had a challenge getting our camper in the site because of cars overflowing the site across from us. The people were friendly though and helped guide us in (although I'd probably preferred that they would move their vehicle).

Can the issues that you mention happen? Sure, but similar things can happen at hotels and condos too. Also most people are quick to "Complain" and not so quick to provide a comments that are positive (well except here... lots of positive vibes). I don't think you will regret going to the Fort at all.

Been there numerous times, all different times of the year...............NEVER experienced any of the situations you described. We have found that the atmosphere at the FORT is quite the opposite. Beautiful calm evenings, occasional cart goes by, horse drawn carriage, few joggers, few walkers AND ALL very friendly! Absolutely THE BEST CAMPGROUND we have ever stayed at anywhere. We also travel in a motorhome, so all I can tell you "NO WORRIES" you'll love it! We'll be back the middle of June.

Wow, I think someone is pulling your leg. Sounds more like camping at a NASCAR race than the Fort! I've done both and the Fort has been some of the most peaceful, enjoyable camping we've done. Just booked another 13 night stay for this summer at the Fort and can't wait!

The stories can seem like its a daily occurrence, but they are far from true. Even the areas where parking in the loops has become and issue Disney seems to be trying to address it (the new lines in the 300 loop for example that you have to park behind!!!

The issues are far and few between, this year was my 7th year in a row going to Disney and staying at FW and I have yet to run into the issues other then parking in the preferred loops.

Good to know. I was hoping the stuff I read was just during certain times (and possibly grumpy people!) Now I can get excited about my trip.

We love staying at the Fort. We have already booked for late December/January. You will have a great time with lots of Disney Dust sprinkled through your stay. So much to see and do just at Fort Wilderness, not to mention all the terrific people you meet. There will always be something or somebody bending the rules, but don't let life get in the way. You can't fix "stupid". So go, enjoy, and be prepared to go back again.

Boopuff our experience has been that Disney sponsors and sanctions a few cart parades during the year not many. There are some groups that come in at various times of the year for large group get together's and have been known to hold their own parades none of these last more than like 15 minutes so I really wouldn't worry about that. The people in the groups there when we were were all booked in the same loop ie each group in its own area and while they were having a good time there was no deliberate intention or action to intrude on others. So Relax and plan on enjoying yourself

See you there we will be checking in 23 Dec and staying till well into Jan

Cart parades usually happen a few times a year, and usually at holiday times, Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July. They usually last 20 minutes or so, and are pretty organized. Watching them is a lot of fun and everyone is in a happy mood. The carts go down the main road and campers really go all out with decorations. We stay at the Fort about three times a year in a premium site. Always a pleasant vacation. Never encountered late night party people, etc. (although I am sure a few may have). Lots of positive comments on the camping board, and the best people around are on here. IMO you have NOT made a mistake booking the Fort. Have a great time!

We spent 2 wonderful weeks at the Fort last July in the 1400 loop (premium) and experienced none of the issues mentioned. No complaints. We loved the Fort!

I've tent camped at the fort twice (third time coming up!) for a week each time. The only issue we ever had was that on thanksgiving, there was a huge family in our same loop. They were SUPER nice to us but they were pretty loud...however they were perfectly quiet between 11 pm and 6 a.m. :-) We love it because it is so peaceful there!

Do you mind if I ask were you read these things? We have been down many times and have never encountered what you are describing.

I read a few stories on trip advisor. I like to read the best and worst reviews. So I'm taking much of this with a grain of salt but I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this. Glad to know the good reports are the norm.

I read a few stories on trip advisor.
Ah... Trip Advisor. That explains it. One of the larger review sites that allow you to post a review without any proof you were actually there. I have a friend that owns resorts in Branson. They are rustic, lake front cabins by design. He is still suffering from a hand full of crappy reviews from people that thought it should be a 5 star resort (nothing on his web site alludes to that) and 1 guest that trashed the room, complained the entire time they were there and were surprised when they were charged for the damage they did to a waverunner. (despite the contract clearly stating, in large letters, you are responsible for damage due to carelessness.)

I do the same thing Boopuff. I like to read the reviews, especially the negative ones. I guess I read them though, figuring there are 100 or more people that had a great experience and didn't bother to post anything for each of the complainers.

I add on that I've been to the Fort 4 times and never witnessed anything you read. I did have one time when kids were playing basketball on the court behind my site later than I wanted. I went out, joined their game and had a conversation with them about what time (10pm) was late enough to play since I wanted to go to bed. No more problems the rest of the week.

I'm counting down. I'm sure I'll have a great time... and I'll stick to the positive stuff I read on here. Thanks

We tent camped at the Fort last year and loved it. It was much more peaceful than a traditional Disney resort. You'll have a great trip.:thumbsup2
