My brother just called me in his room and told me his friend clicked on a link in a friends profile and now there are pop ups..so he probalby got a virus...
of cuorse, the virus program just expired last week so im trying to download a new one and i keep getting the error box :your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded:

is there any specific thing i should try or a certain way i should go about trying to clear t his? thanks!

What virus program is it? I have had a problem a while back where an attachment had a virus that disabled my McAffee. I had to uninstall the program and reinstall the whole thing before I could download the update.

If you have a customer service number for Norton, I would call them. Otherwise I would uninstall. Go to Add/Remove Programs to do so. That SHOULD also remove any registry entries that the virus messed with to disable it. Of course, first make sure you can find the disc to reinstall.

he had already uninstalled it before i came in here..his friend was trying to help..it was the free version that we downloaded off the internet..now i cant get anythnig

Are you not able to re-download it? Is there somewhere on that website you can get help?

And, in the future, he might want to try a paid for virus scanner. You can get a subscription for $30/year to Mcaffee, which provides you the program and all updates.

i told him just turn off his computer for now..

i just had him and his friend reciting "i will not clink links in my friends profiles" kinda funny seeing two 19 year olds doing that :)

i cant get anything to work on there, so hes just going to take it to our computer guy tomorrow-we have a local guy that doesnt charge us to much and he'll fix it real quick..

thanks so much!

It sounds like you have your security settings too high to be able to download a program. Go to Internet Explorer, at the top, click on tools and internet options. Then go to security. It sounds like it can't put a cookie on your system enabling you to download the file.

How bout system restore, roll it back to the day before he clicked on the link.
