Just thought I'd share - especially for the people who are not particularly computer savvy.
All month we've had some varying computer problems related to viruses and malware. Kind of surprising since we keep our computer pretty tight, security wise.
I thought I'd share some steps we had to take in case others were having similar problems.
First, we have Malaware Bytes that we scan with regularly, HOWEVER (and the thing we didn't know), it has to be updated before each use or it may not pick up the latest versions of malware that are out there.
There is something else "going around" that can attack your web browser and effectively block your security software from working and/or updating. Thankfully we pay for support through our ISP (Verizon) which helps us deal with these types of problems when they come up. For this one they actually had to transfer us to their McAfee support person in order to help us get it resolved, and even then it was a little touch and go. But my message here is that IMO it's well worth what Verizon charges to have help a phone call away if you've always wondered about paying for this type of support through your ISP.
There is some nasty stuff out there.
It's too bad the people responsible for this type of thing couldn't channel their skills in a better way.
