computer help, please....

I have a HP laptop with Windows XP. I spent a couple hours yesterday downloading windows updates (I was a little behind). Now my screen is not full size. It is about 3/4 size, and very difficult to read. Anyone know a very simple way to fix this? I've tried control panel, display, etc. I've also been to the HP website and Updates site. Any help would be much appreciated....
