Computer Help Needed!-*Update* Replaced with new model

Sounds like faulty ram to me. Try taking out one chip if it has two and see if it still has issues, if so take out the other and put the first back in and try again. Although if it does i would just return it anyway

I've always been preferential to Dell, though plenty of brands can be good. It sounds really like the particular system you got here was just a lemon. If you're interested, let me know your budget and desired specs, and I'll try to find you a recommendation :)

I haven't read the whole thread, but I agree with this! You can also check with the RAM manufacturer. They should have an application you can download and test the RAM.

Can't remember if I mentioned this new problem or not. It likes to take the one e-mail I'm going to put in the trash and the one below it.

While it was gone this last time, I used my old computer and I checked to see if it was doing this and nope.

I have to agree that this new computer is a lemon, now how do I prove it to HP or Best Buy?

I have filled out the forms for BBB to file a complaint. I seem to be out of luck with both HP and Best Buy. They both say the computer works fine.

My credit card company can't help. I only had 3 months to dispute the charge.

Called Tech support again and was told to change some of the internet properties so that it would go to google instead of blank webpage-didn't work still get blank webpages. Also had me update any Windows updates and install them. Nope still didn't work.

My e-mail still grabs extra e-mails when I try to trash one. E-mail (yahoo) requested me to use Firefox. Tried it but still having trouble with the e-mail taking extras to the trash.

Another evening wasted!

You know it's bad when you a novice (okay maybe a bit better than that) knows more than the case manager (HP), tech service agent (HP), and the Geek Squad (Best Buy).

I've been telling them for at least a month that doing the resets won't bring back the games on the computer. Today I talked to the executive case manager and the tech service agent before putting myself through more work and grief. They both assured me that doing a system recovery would get the games back (and the other file(s) that I'm sure are missing). Well I just did one and all the case manager can say is I'm sorry it didn't work. They still refuse to replace this one with a new one.

Please do not buy an HP product. They don't care about the customers.

I would ask to speak with the case manager's supervisor. Tell them you are taking this to the Internet and you are going to tell everyone you can not to buy a HP product. You really have to fight with these guys. I know it's frustrating. Be nice but firm, and tell them what you want. See if there is an official HP forum and post all the problems you are having there. You might get better responses there to what could be wrong anyway. Better on a computer forum than on DIS.

I have posted on their Facebook page asking for help. I will see if I can find an HP forum.

Best Buy said they would take another look at the computer.

I have spent hours today resetting it to system recovery and then re-installing all the stuff-Windows updates, printer, etc.

Posted on the HP forum, no responses yet.

So I did the system recovery a few days ago and so far so good on the IE-no blank webpages and I don't think I have seen any IE stopped working messages either.

Unfortunately, there is now another strange problem happening. I try to enter contests and get messages that there is a connection problem. Even the owner of one of the sites I go to looked into a link I was having trouble with and said it was working fine. He even checked with IE, so we would be on the same browser.

Time to start a paper trail. Send a register letter detailing the problem and what has been done. At this point I would be demanding either a new computer or they take back this one and refund your money.

One reason I use dell is their service. I have bought several from them. One computer I had a hard drive go one month after I got the computer. They sent out a technician to replace the hard drive within 3 business days. Never had anymore problems with that computer. Another time a computer started to act strange. while on the phone they took control of the computer and had it fixed within 15 minutes. I just sat there watching them do it.

So Best Buy (who I bought the computer from) had the Geek Squad re-install the software HP sent me after I sent the case manager video of the things that were happening. The games were not on the disks, but BB tried to add them. The problem is that you only get 1 hour to play the game and then you have to pay to keep playing. I told them the computer is not the same as what I purchased. I got a manager to talk to and he said bring it in they have another one that they will exchange it for.

So yesterday I drove over with the computer and the manager wasn't working and they couldn't find the same model. So they had me upgrade and pay the difference to an HP Pavilion p7-1539. Game are on the computer, no blank webpages and it doesn't delete extra e-mails when I trash one.

So far so good with the new computer. I plan on making recovery disks soon so I won't loose the games if anything happens to this computer.

I can't believe it took this long for a resolution. I'm glad Best Buy did the right thing when HP wouldn't.

Glad to hear you're finally working! Also glad that (with a little prodding) Best Buy took care of you.

Also, looks like a pretty decent system you've got.

Thanks, they only had HP and Asus in desktop computers at the store I was at and the Asus one had less ram then the 1449 I was returning. So there wasn't much choice.
